Maybe the bigger story is how crazy Republican voters in Alabama have gotten that would back the jackass Republican candidate and reject the more viable Republican candidate.
Luther and Moe took each other out. Moore stayed out of the line of fire and walked past them to the nomination while they were still flinging shite at each other.

his is the problem with the Primary system. It tends allow people who are way outside the political norms the chance to be the candidate for their party (See Presidential election 2016) and you end up with a lesser of two evils choice in the general election.
Nothing about Trump is the lesser of two evils. He is pure evil, and by far the worst of the two candidates.

So what you're saying is there all bad candidates

I didn't know this until last night but Roy Moore's maximum previous victory margin in state wide election was 4% when there was no national interest or sexual accusations. It was only 4% when "normal" Republican win by 28%. Even Trump won by 28% in Alabama.
You're right. Moore was a terrible candidate.
The blame goes to McConnell for not having the vision or leadership abilities to initially get behind Mo Brooks.
This is the face saving move, I guess.
You realize how incredibly dumb it is to suggest that the Senate President support anybody other than the SITTING Senator? But it can't be the fault of ignorant primary voters who supported a whackadoo. It has to be THE ESTABLISHMENT!!! It's all their fault! Drain the swamp!
Primary voters screwed up. OP has the character to admit it. Let's learn the right lesson in this and move on*.
We have a tax package to pass and 2018 elections to deal with.
*that lesson is don't nominate whackadoo candidates.

This same logic can be used on Trump getting elected president. The Democrats run anyone besides Hillary and they win. This board believes Trump is some sort of revolution he isn't he won by 77k votes just like Jones why 20k . Jones winning isn't a signal that Alabama is turning blue it's signal not to run shitty people.

How about those three debates?
Did i miss them on c-span?
I kept thinking of o brother where art thou. Dude was a caricature.
David duke 2.
Barely lost.
If the crackers had bothered to vote he'd be crowing on fox news right now.

Look at what I posted on 9/26/17. This was a long, long time before the devastating sexual allegations surfaced:
Sheesh. The voters of Alabama just coughed up a serious hairball by their selection of Roy Moore. This is an opportunity for the Democrat Doug Jones to steal a Senate seat that once seemed a lock for the Republicans. Moore is in short, a religious nut who is WAY too extreme to grace the halls of ...

While that may be true, that’s 20/20 hindsight, and a bit revisionist. Hillary was projected to win in a landslide. The dimocratix thought Hillary was bulletproof, and were delighted with her as their candidate, until she lost.
Even the staunchest of Moore supporters recognized he had tons of baggage.

The revisionist history on the primary is quite baffling. Brooks allowed the race devolve into which one between him and Strange could glom themselves to Trump more. They both knew they couldn't peel away enough Moore supporters, so they were going after the same pool of voters. Of course it was going to get nasty.

The Trump/Bannon wing of the GOP lost a Senate in the Deep South. That’s not easy to do. That means to me that the GOP establishment is winning the (not so civil) war within the party, and the Democrats are grinning.
Some of you wanted to burn the Republican party down. Well, smell the smoke.

Plus, he set himself up for all those "and the horse you rode in on" lines.

Incorrect.
The GOP just screwed MAGA. The GOP establishment WANTED to lose this election so they pushed a shitty candidate like Roy Moore on Alabama voters.
The GOP wants an excuse not to pass any of the legislation Trump wants, they hate him as much as the Dems do.

Luther Strange could have carried Alabama by 28 points. Moore was simply a historically bad candidate whose own words and actions rendered him unelectable, notwithstanding the unsavory sexual allegations.
Moore lost BIG in Tuscaloosa, Auburn/ Opelika, Huntsville, Mobile, Dothan, Phenix City, etc. These were all cities that Trump carried, not to mention McCain and Romney before him.

And why is it always:
Woman accuses Republican based on 30-40 year old unprovable claims.
Woman accuses Dem with relatively recent and/or evidence proving claims.

Yes, they took each other out by trying to be more Trump, more conservative, etc. and then there was the mud flinging. They basically split their voters and Moore with his evangelical base walked right by them.

because it's Alabama, I didn't think it would matter, but him losing fits well in my view of what really matters in every election
relatability.
campaigning from a church pulpit, cowboy hat, vest, riding his horse to the polls. the cringe inducing lines about everything...on top of that the whole riding his horse to the polls just seemed so stupid and fake like he thought that appealed to people
honestly, if he just dressed like a real person he probably would've eeked it out despite everything, but he looks like a caricature of people's negative perceptions of the south

I know that's right. Maybe now he'll put on his cowboy hat, get on that horse, twirl his six-shooter on his finger and ride right out of the state, for good.
