Baton Rouge police: Man jumps off I-10 overpass after accident to avoid being hit by another car

A man jumped off an overpass to avoid being hit while checking his car for damage after crashing into the barrier Saturday afternoon, said Baton Rouge police spokesman Sgt. L'Jean McKneely.
The man jumped off the I-10 West overpass near the I-110 split.
Depending on where he jumped, he's going to be in the hospital for a while. Would be nice if there were shoulders in that section.

That sucks. That section, especially eastbound, has got to be one of the worst interstate designs in the country. How on earth should an interstate that spans California to Florida go to one lane by design at the base of a giant bridge?

I’ve put a lot of thought into how to handle this scenario as I drive the same route daily. The trick is to keep your eyes upstream. When you see the first sign of trouble hop up on the railing then jump over the offending car back onto the interstate.

I guess they never thought population would increase over 40 years. EBR is the most populated parish in the state, they can't keep ignoring this because not just BR residents have to use that stretch of 10.

I don't know if it is still true, but as far as the approach of I-10W to the bridge, that was the most dangerous interstate highway bridge approach in the United States for many, many years - multiple examples of trucks losing it in that curve, partially/fully going over the side, accidents because it's a blind curve, etc.
Heck, one cool, dark Saturday morning 20+ years ago, a BR cop put himself between me and danger, almost sacrificing himself to save me on that approach.
Something should at least be attempted to make that area safer with shoulders, barriers, etc.

I remember a few years ago some kids were driving around and one was sleeping in the back seat. They tried to prank him and stopped the car and acted like it was on fire or something.. the dude woke up and was disoriented and ran right off the fricking overpass

Lest be honest , we have all thought about doing this.
