Rules changed apparently. No more back counting early entrants.

Not sure how it works out. If a team only signs 22 players one year, then the next can't they sign 28 and count three back a year? I know they can't over sign with the intentions of not renewing scholarships of players already on scholarship, like Saban was doing. I know they can't over sign to replace scholarships of players that left early or transferred, but there has to be some attrition, at least 15 each year to meet the NCAA max of 85 or you have to undersign. Just don't know if there's some loophole or exception.

I’m willing to wager several teams will go over 25.

We didn’t sign a full class last year.... so I think if we’re under the 85 limit....some early entrants can be back counted to last years spots we didn’t fill.

So what the hell happened ?

Did the SEC bring in a rule that only the SEC has to abide ?

Did the NCAA change a rule ?

Fuuuukkkkkkkkkk

I'm thinking it has to do with Giles, Fehoko and Moss

Supposedly a loophole was closed when they introduced the new early signing period.

Can only sign 25 “initial” signees (whether HS or JUCO). The only leeway is in transfers, who count against the 85. Anyway, that’s how I read it.

So... unless Traore, Lewis, or Moore can somehow be counted as transfers, then I think we are pretty set at 25 total. Good news is we have 3 transfers coming in from last year who are ready to contribute now at positions of need: Fehoko (DL), Giles (WR), and Moss (TE). There’s also Shelvin, who I’m hoping is ready to go now also. Anybody know the latest in Shelvin?

The annual limit has been 25 for several years, and the NCAA doesn’t use terms like “backcounting”.

The bylaw was reworded to close loopholes, but nothing has changed regarding backcounting.

If there was a loophole why didn't LSU use it to it's advantage like other teams in the SEC did?

They CAN'T dumbass it would be a RULES VIOLATION!!! The new rules adopted this summer put a HARD cap on the number of signees you can accept in a recruiting class each year. No if's and's or but's about it! So unless a team wants an immediate rules violation with major consequences then NO there isn't a team that will sign more than 25 in a class.

Because applying EEs to the previous class if there is room is still allowed, some will have more than 25 combined between the early and later signing date. May just be semantics, but that is more than 25 for the given year.

What the rules do is place a significant penalty for signing non qualifiers or someone like Lavelle Hawkins who signed with LSU, but never became a counter because he transferred before school started. You won't be able to replace them the following year like you used to.

Are you positive about this? Someone else on the RB said that this is one of the loopholes that was closed. If this is still true, then LSU should be able to sign 27-28 guys total.

An FBS team can bring in 25 new scholarship players in one signing class. The limit is on 25 “initial counters,” which you can think of as players in their first year on an athletic scholarship. But a team can bring in more than 25 enrollees in a given year, in a few circumstances. Most commonly, if an athlete graduates high school early and enrolls for the spring semester, and if the school stayed under a cap of 25 in the previous year, it can assign enrollees to the previous class, up to the 25-man total cap. If a player wants to delay his enrollment until the following spring, he can then be assigned to the following year’s class. But all players must be attributed to either a prior, current, or future class, and no class can exceed 25.
