There were some good fights in Tiger Stadium in the late 80s. The most violent sporting event I have ever attended was in West Virginia. I worked in the mining industry for a few years in the 90s. We were given tickets to Ohio State vs West Virginia in Morgantown 1998. Sold out, SRO, national TV. Night game. I personally witnessed no less than 30 fights. OSU fans are pricks. The worst I have ever seen. At the pre-game tailgates the OSU fans were provoking the WVU folks with incest taunts. The WVU folks, fueled by homemade 'Mountain Dew' were ready to respond. In the stadium the fans were intermixed. It was a European soccer riot.

Cell phones reduce fighting. In the good old days you push, throw a few punches, and ice yourself down the next day. It's over. Today, the videos of your scuffle go viral, police find out, your boss finds out, you lose your job or some such. Better just to chill
