Well you can transfigure a stool into a pig, and then kill the pig and eat it. I don’t care what Rowling has said, she dedicated an entire course to this. It’s a plot hole.

I guess it all depends if the transfigured stool is really a pig post-transfiguration. It may look and sound like a pig, but would it really be pork you're eating, or something else. This may be a plot hole, or just minutiae that really doesn't add or subtract from the story.
