The first two are two of the most interesting RPGs I've played over the last 10 or so years. True JRPGs with some very unique systems, and I put the first one up there with the Chrono Trigger, FF6, Secret of Mana tier of games.

They've taken it a little more anime than they have in the past, but the combat and world-building are usually top notch. Reviews are solid, and I'd highly suggest to anyone as a sprawling epic after Zelda. I probably put 200 hours into the first game and 150 or so into the second. They are often that big.

84/100 on Metacritic

The overall depth of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and how well it all ties together is astounding. Though higher expectations mean it is less of a stunning revelation than the first game, Monolith Soft has risen up tall to meet those expectations and delivered spectacularly in every area. 2017 has been one of the greatest years in RPG history; Xenoblade Chronicles 2 caps that off in mesmerising fashion by being one of the finest titles of the year.

What makes all of this effort worth it is the sense of awe that comes from exploring the world of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. It’s a place that makes you feel miniscule. In this universe, humanity lives on the backs of giant creatures called titans, which are big enough that they’re essentially continents, walking through a mysterious sea made of clouds. There’s an incredible thrill that comes from running through an open plain and looking up to see what appears to be a moving mountain, that actually turns out to be the rocky neck of a towering creature. These moments never seem to get old, as the game continually throws new and strange places at you. At one point, you’re actually swallowed by a titan, only to discover a fantastical ecosystem living inside of it.

The first one was hands down my favorite game on the WiiU. I loved everything about it from the customization to exploring the universe they built, to the fighting. Every aspect of it.

As i get older, i enjoy these games alot more than a fast paced shooter. It a fun game to spend hours on. Just running around and exploring the world they created is worth buying the game if you're into massive open world exploration games.

I have this one pre-ordered and will be picking it up from Gamestop at 11 tonight.

Can't wait. In full Nintendo fanboy mode.

Put another notch into the "reasons the Swtich is the best console out there for me" belt.

That is about as high praise as you can give a JRPG. I never played the first one, but I just got a Switch this week and once I beat Zelda I'll be looking for something new.

I should post some negative reviews to be fair though:

Xenoblade 2 consistently displays a frustrating lack of respect for the player’s time. Everything takes significantly longer than it needs to, in part because the game contains such an overwhelming number of features. It can take dozens of minutes to navigate the clunky menus, sort through all of the characters’ upgrades, and manage a collection of Pokémon-like Blades. The mini-map is vague and often feels like it’s withholding information. There are no larger maps to be found, so you’ll have to rely upon UI markers to figure out where you need to go.

Battles are long and tedious, and many of them dragged on even after I’d fully learned how the combat system worked. The otherwise satisfying battle combos became much less interesting after I had to repeat them on every bullet-spongey trash mob in my path. And when I wasn’t grinding levels or taking care of some of the game’s menial sidequests, boss fights often prevented me from making any progress, especially during those moments when Xenoblade 2 arbitrarily decides to limit the party to two characters as opposed to the standard three.

On this and many other levels, Xenoblade 2 exhibits admirable depth. Adventurous types that enjoy complex combat systems can easily spend more than 100 hours uncovering Alrest's secrets and developing their team of Blades, provided they can come to terms with a handful of unavoidable shortcomings. It's equal parts pleasing and frustrating, but the struggle to keep up with everything thrown your way is more of a hurdle than a roadblock. It will be a tough pill to swallow for people who aren't accustomed to the typical cliches found in many Japanese RPGs, and its often clumsy nature keeps it from being the next groundbreaking Switch game, but Xenoblade 2 is worth pursuing if you've got enough patience to let it blossom.

I admit, I'm too deep in to post at this post.

Still crazy good.

Poppi is extremely good if you devote some time to Tiger Tiger, just fyi.

END OF CHAPTER 3 SPOILERS

The unlocked Blade slot is so huge, that's what opens this game up. I was having a tough time getting through good combos until it did.

Sad to see Vandham go, but he wasn't in any marketing, so it was kind of expected. I do like the difference between Mythra and Pyra. Kind of funny.

This is probably where I start to slow down even more. Time to do some quests.

So I get to Indol... notice it's full of core crystals, has a bunch of refugees, notice there are like no merc missions attached to it, and very few quest...

needless to say, after playing Lost Odyssey years ago I pretty much learned to take context clues and have raised indol's dev level to 5 and completed all the quest and done a whole lot of salvaging at the salvaging point

They really made you stay in Indol a long time, about to head out, you will be missed ol' prince

ETA: I literally just finished all of the Indol stuff... (running back in forth, finishing chapter 5, etc.) and am about to head to the home of Adamm, how much longer does Indol have?

Finally downloaded this game and started playing last night. The beginning is a bit nagging with the tutorials and I find things get a little busy at times with all the markers above everyone in the shop areas. That being said this game looks really promising. Still getting adjusted to the battle system as it can be a bit chaotic. Looks to be a challenging game.
