I am thinking about getting my non faculty coaching certification in order to volunteer coach. I have always wanted to coach and thought this might be a good route to take in order to do so.

Anyone else have experience in this area or coach for a living with advice?

Find a school that needs a CECP coach. They’ll handle your certification.

Are you in Louisiana? Lhsaa.com classifieds. Most schools in need will post there. Also, Ken Ramsey’s site. Call a school you want to coach for and ask. Tons of schools are understaffed or are in need of a freshmen coach.

I've had my CECP for 7 years now. The first thing I would suggest is to see if the Principal at whatever school you're considering volunteering at wants to have a CECP. Some are opposed to it. If they and there coaching staff are interested they will point you in the right direction to get your certification.

Yep. Do it. Then if you want to do it full time, GET CERTIFIED AND DONT WASTE YOUR TIME IN PRIVATE SCHOOLS

My sons middle school team has a Volunteer assistant coach. I've thought about doing it to but I get off of work after practice has ended.

I would like to coach track and field and some offensive position in football. The schemes are so different than when I played the game I'm sure the learning curve steep.

To be honest I just want to be around the game again and help kids compete.

Yeah. I mean, it's almost a full day!!!!!

And saying that, I may be thinking of the ACE certification. How long is the CECP again? It's been many years since I got it.

I was a non-fac coach at a public school before becoming a fulltime coach at a private school.

Both are great jobs. I sometimes wish I could be a non-fac assistant but with my switch in careers I do not have the time.

FWIW I left the job to pursue a more lucrative career as I was a single father at the time.

Coaching High School is an awesome experience. Private schools pay far less than public schools but can tend to have the better athletes.

I did my CECP long before the LHSAA went to an online module. I had to spend 3 hours listening to Tommy Henry in a meeting room of a BR hotel.

Yeah, speaking on this one from personal experience. Find a public school with a good strong administration and go start earning your pension. 30 years in and you can draw your salary for life + benefits.

I went to private schools. Coached in private schools. Taught in private schools. Lack of $$ almost made me want to quit the profession.

GO PUBLIC.
