Why do you think "the media" needs him to a star?

Did you see what ESPN did with:

LeBron James
Tiger Woods
Brett Favre's comebacks
Danica Patrick
Tim Tebow
Johnny Douchebag

If you don't understand the symbiotic relationship between the Ball family and ESPN, then I can't help you. Both sides benefit from having a "celebrity" athlete.

What technicality?

The technicality that if it's you're first year playing in the league your a rookie?

Somehow people think because Simmons got hurt before the season and never payed a minute last year he shouldn't be considered a rookie.
Wilt Chamberlain played professionally for the Globetrotters for a year. Pau Gasol played professionally in Europe for a few years. Blake Griffin missed his entire first season as well, before being unanimously awarded ROY.

I guess you could say everybody who wins ROY wins on a technicality, the technicality that they never played a minute of NBA regular season basketball prior to their rookie year.

fultz is not even playing.

Two questionable (lol) uses of top picks.

Ball wont even finish 2nd in the voting.

1. Simmons. 18/9/6
2. Markkanen 17/9

Tatum 13/6/4 on the team with best record.

Yea, it'll be the same exact thing as MJ.

Obviously this thread is way way early. But he definitely has not had the best start.

I may end up biting these words. But I never saw Ball as this transcendent star some were making him to be. He will be a solid player, but definitely not in the ranks of the Laker greats.

I forgot smith, thx.
I keep expecting his body to betray him.
Anyhow, lonzo not in top tier based on the first 10 games.

I really liked markkanen and tatum prior to draft.

I am still stunned at the fultz disaster. Lived 6 miles from philadelphia age 10 to 14, so i still wish them well.

I acknowledge laughing man re mj and tatum comparison. At least bowie (2nd pick) was terrific and was victim of leg issues.

He will be a solid role player for the Lakers

They will never admit Magic fricked it up by trading Russell and not picking Tatum

He's a rookie, as much as I dislike his father, the hate on here for the kid seems odd to me.

He was the #2 pick and the centerpiece of "The Chosen Franchise" BECAUSE of his father and the hype machine that surrounded him. That's not the first time an overhyped player got drafted higher than he deserved and then failed (for now). Tony Mandarich and Todd Marinovich come to mind.

Do you really want your PG to be a role player?

That's irrelevant. You don't want your #2 pick to be a role player.

But mainly, please see who you replied to for all you need to know on his Lakers takes.

Is he a hater or just a really bad Laker fan?

Unless I'm mistaking him for a similarly named poster, SDVTiger is a Clippers fan/biggest Lakers hater on the MSB.

All I remember about SDV is that he called Joey Bosa the worst pick in Chargers history.

Oops!

He also had a standing bet with anyone on the MSB that the Clippers would win I believe 54 games this season.

Damn, I pointed that out in another thread knowing it was bad, but didn’t know it was THAT bad
