But I felt like we delivered some blows, especially on the defensive line," Orgeron said. "We did not get pushed around. We did the pushing around in a lot of instances. So I think that we made some progress there."

It was an easy opportunity for Orgeron to point to recruiting and how that can finish closing the gap with Alabama that the staff is desperately trying to do. While skill players like 2018 five-star prospects Terrace Marshall and Patrick Surtain, Jr. are seen as LSU leans, 2019 has some elite prospects in the trenches already committed to LSU including five-star linemen Kenyon Green and Kardell Thomas while defensive lineman Ishmael Sopsher is an in-state target that LSU and Alabama are both after.

The battle in the trenches has been the difference the last few times LSU and Alabama faced off. Orgeron sees the gap closing and naturally, he's going to recruit hard to finish closing the gap.

Well, the 2018 class is a rank mediocrity thus far, so the talent gap will only grow barring some unforseen flurry of commitments.

If "a couple players" means "one", and "one" means "quarterback", I agree.
No offense to Danny, but Saturday night proved that LSU is lacking a QB and not much else. We already knew depth on the lines was thin, but they still held their own against Alabama, and even outperformed Alabama at times. The WRs were getting open and putting themselves in position to make plays. RBs played a very solid game. Defense, while susceptible to big plays at times, did extremely well.
But LSU lost that game because the QB couldn't make the plays when needed. Plain and simple.

Actually, we're one player (or position) away from closing the gap. One that can throw a deep ball when it's there and hit other open players when it's not. Simple as that.

It's been a long time since we've had a class with such promise in the trenches.
Kardell Thomas = #2 OG (LSU Commit)
Kenyon Green = #2 OT (LSU Commit)
Grimes doin' work!
Ishmael Sopsher = #1 DT (LSU Lean)
