Wow that is close..
Well as evidenced, Etling must have a good bit higher YPC

Nice. Would still take Hurts every day of the week.

Is it because he's a larger, more durable and mobile QB?

There's a big mofo on the bench that may step in as an X factor per an anonymous player on the team........Lowell might Cardell the Tide

There’s no doubt Etling is the better thrower but Hurts can run.

Etling is about to have his best game as a Tiger. Watch...

Hurts: 84 Rush 572 Yds 6 TD's
Etling: 41 Rush 95 Yds 1 TD
TOTAL:
Hurts: 235 attempts 1795 yds 15 TD's
Etling: 196 attempts 1547 yds 10 TD's
Hurts' legs give him the edge. IF we can stop the run and make him throw we have a chance. If we let him run wild like he did last year I think we're toast.

Wut? His only big play on the ground required 3 holds. He was awful against us last year; our offense was just worse

Hurts 7.6 yards per play
Etling 7.9 yards per play
Every time I see Etlings numbers next to other QBs I’m amazed.

Dude he had 20 carries for 114 yards. Stop blaming 1 play on the outcome of that game.

PFF Numbers to Know: Completing 70.7 percent of his passes with 6 TDs and 656 yards off play-action. Holding the ball 2.5 seconds and less, Etling is connecting on 70 percent of his passes. When he holds it 2.6 seconds or more, it drops to a 44.8 percent completion rate. No. 12 in the SEC in overall grade for starting quarterbacks.

We need the running game to sell the play action and we need to give him quick throws. I think both are achievable with the players we have on offense.

Hurts can't throw vs a decent defense. Bama hasn't faced but one this year.

That stat isn’t surprising, Etling looks like a star when he has protection. His numbers take a big drop when he’s under pressure but on the bright side he does scramble for yardage and first downs and he doesn’t let the pressure force him into turnovers. I agree we do need to run the ball to activate our play action but we will also need success on straight dropbacks too. We really need a chain moving pass catcher to step up, Moreau, Dillon or even the backs out of the backfield need to become mid range pass catching threats. I’d love to see Guice get 7-10 targets on swing passes, screens, checkdowns and angle routes. He needs 20+ touches regardless if we are having success running the ball or not.

In tight game like that, that play broke our backs.

We weren't gonna score on that defense. No single play broke our backs. Had they not scored that we would've lost 3-0

Wow wasnt expecting th numbers to be so similar.

Being that 1 play was the only TD scored I think it is very relevant to bring it up especially since there were 3 holds on the play which were not called which allowed Hurts to score. Go back to Bama with your bs.

Problem is, neither can LSU. 71st in scoring offense and 84th in passing offense. The scoring offense is really all that matters and LSU has been putrid against very little talent up to this point. Better have some tricks up their sleeves if they are going to compete. 9 passing touchdowns is terrible, no matter what name you put next to Etling's. Hurts is a true dual threat and our guy is actually no threat, which has been stated by several opposing teams. The fact that the Navy QB has a better Passer Rating than Etling is pretty bad, considering he has almost as many ints as tds.
