quote:the obvious problem being violence as the motivating/unifying force as opposed to cogent theology. as i said elsewhere, islam is not organic today. most muslims in the world are not muslim by choice nor do they have freedom to learn about religion.
In that regard it worked very well, and is as organic
quote:very well said. mohammed wasn't well informed regarding religion due to the pseudo christians/jews he had met up to that point and let's be honest, his "visions" were kooky. most everyone could see that and his movement started to fade so, he turned to violence. the real hero of islam is Khadija. if it weren't for her...
The religious aspect of Islam is a pastiche of various Jewish, Christian, Zoroastrian, and Pre-Islamic Arabic beliefs and is in some ways an afterthought to the militancy

quote:that wasn't the point. the point was there is no judicial remediation because of their zeal. he obviously didn't mean kill ALL muslims.
Should we have killed all Japanese and Germans? How about Vietnamese? Koreans? Don't forget the Russians.
the germans didn't leave the us any choice either. they weren't going to give up so we had to go all the way to the heart of berlin. the japs otoh, gave up when they saw the futility. do you think the violent muslims are going to adopt the japanese approach? highly unlikely based on the last century+.

quote:honestly, i think this is a bit of western politicizing of their goals. they're zealots. they want to carve out a theocracy anywhere they can and then attack the rest of world until it is subdued for allah (Qurtuba). they can't meet the opponents with equal force so, they resort to guerrilla tactics.
retribution carried out against individual Muslims is what ISIS wants, causing a slight conundrum for Western governments who are now invested in insulating their Islamic populations while at the same time attempting to avoid ISIS's propaganda arm

I’m torn on this one. I hate the religion, but my own religious beliefs lead me to have a soft spot for those fleeing war and oppression.
