Neck Shots on Deer

This is more directed to does. Always have shot at the traditional shoulder area, but always seem to destroy a lot of meat. So my questions are:
Are neck shots as lethal/humane?
Where on neck do you aim (closer to body/middle/higher)?
And if it matters. Shooting 30-06 with soft tip

Well placed shot behind the shoulder shouldn't result in much meat loss. Neck shots you'll lose the neck roast which is a damn tasty cut of meat.

Neck shots are only for turkeys. Will always shoot deer behind the shoulder

I like a neck shot inside 75 yards or so.
Head down, 3-4 inches behind the head.
I haven't done it in a while. I don't get out and shoot like I should.

Most of the shots at the place I hunt are 100 yards and I shoot enough to be fairly confident. Just mulling over different options. I'm not for taking head shots bc if you hit low you could only dis jaw the deer and they starve.

Neck shot is the best shot. They will not take a step.

I've been shooting does in the neck the past couple years under 100yds. You made me remember the bone in neck roasts of my youth. No more neck shots for me

Deer neck soup...
Many moons ago Dad made this after the divorce. After 4 nights I refused it and got Johnny's.
A week later my Maw Maw was in town. Big delicious soup on the stove... Leftover Deer neck soup...

I shoot the big flat spot at the base of the neck. Literally drop in their tracks. Very humane shot. Easy shot inside 100 yards. I shoot an '06 and I have it sighted in 2" high at 100 which is easy to compensate for on a neck shot at 100. Also easy to make the same shot between 100 and 200 if you have good glass and lots of range time.

Some dude tried to shoot a doe in the neck next to me on WMA. Just grazed her. I could tell she was suffering so I shot her behind the shoulder. Dude comes up to me and says “Did you finish her off?” I said “Nope I didn’t finish her off, I killed her. You never would have found that deer. “ He had just cut the neck muscles. Another inch back and she would have dropped. Backstraps were tasty!

Ive killed 2 with neck shots. An 8 pt looking dead at me at 100yds.
A 6pt at 200yds broad side and got lucky because I was aiming at his shoulder. My scope mounts/scope were off.

Haven't shot a doe anywhere but the neck for years. Very little meat on the neck, drops them in their tracks, and zero risk of making jelly out of the off shoulder.

Early season does behind the ear. Never had a problem other than killing two in one shot one time

Depends on your confidence with your accuracy. Smoked several does in the neck. Dropped a doe 2 yrs ago with .270 at 15 yds in the neck. They drop right there and its awesome.

Switched to neck shots about 5 years ago and I'm not going back. Wait for her to get to a spot I can drive the truck up to and bam...dead right there.

My favorite shot for close-range does is the neck at the base of the head. Drops em like a sack of shite.
