still to this day the great waste of talent in LSU history, Miles should have been fired for this alone.. I lived 3 doors down from him and have known him for years. Outstanding young man raised by a fantastic family. He loved LSU and still does. but I remember after his freshman year him telling me that he didnt think he would get a shot, he never did.. Wish we would have had Canada when he was here.. that kid could have been special... thats why i cant stand miles..

He pretty much was. Then LSU was suddenly devoid of talent all of a sudden according to some.

this just isn't true. Shepard simply wasn't good when he was here.

I'm not a fan of Miles, but I'll defend him in this case. Miles gave Shep enough touches, but Shep didn't do much with it. He had stone hands, no jukeability, ran bad routes, and went down at first contact.

He just wasn't good while he was here, and Miles gave him enough chances.

Glad to see he's improved and having a good career in the NFL though.

Shepard was not a wasted talent at LSU. Shep wanted to play pro ball. You are not going to get a pro contract as a quarterback as an undersized duel threat scamper back, even if you win big in college ball. Based on the measurables, Shepard had to develop another talent. He isn't big enough to be an every down running back or tight end. Wide receiver was the one position on the offensive side of the ball for which Shep had the measurables to translate into a pro contract. He had a learning curve, but he worked his arse off and gained valuable experience.

And it worked. He's still in the league earning a solid paycheck. This is a success story.

He wasn't an SEC QB.

If he had stayed at QB he probably wouldn't be in the NFL right now.

Anyone that says Shep didn't get a shot at LSU is a liar. He had plenty of chances, and wasn't a great WR. How to you explain the numerous WRs at LSU that excelled? You make is sound like Miles was holding onto Shep's ankles as he was running routes.

I can tell you unequivocally that Shepard would have made Jennings look like Tom Brady. I know Russell too. I like him. Incredible athlete, but a college QB he was not.
