Wiki was famous for saying it would revolutionize the world. Yet, even the people here keep talking about US $$ made. Not a revolution.
I don't think the people here ever argued that their investments were causing a revolution, but in some sense, a sort of revolution (to use that term loosely) has occurred. Google and Goldman Sachs are the two biggest investors in Blockchain companies, and Goldman Sachs and other big banks are also looking to move into cryptocurrency markets as we speak. They just can't ignore them anymore, given their size in the VC world.

Imagine that, legislation attributed to its value...
Yep. There was a great deal of naivity by some Bitcoin enthusiasts on how easy it would be to evade regulatory authorities. The cryptocurrency field is the Wild West right now, but it will settle down and evolve in unpredictable ways, and this will be highly dependent upon how governments react and collaborate to regulate its use, and there is no guarantee that the value of particular brands won't evaporate overnight due to systemic regulatory changes.
Anyway, I didn't mean to start a whole new discussion on the details of Bitcoin. I just wanted to remind people that many outlandish things were said in trying to tear Bitcoin down... and that much is true. It would be a waste of time trying to do an intensive forensic analysis of what was said by whom, especially since I myself was never really a Bitcoin enthusiast.

You are saying blockchain was a common discussion in 2013? I’m calling BS on that one. Maybe it was within niche technical communities but it did not emerge as a mainstream trend with broad application until quite recently.
It was certainly talked about in 2013 here.
Can you cite broad applications?
The sole primary use and discussion revolve, still, around trading for US $$.
Ripple is one of the first that is working to make banking transactions faster. LINK /
Harvard has a good piece on Bitcoin, its technology, and how they see it fitting into our world. LINK

Yea, I get it. I participated in all that. My biggest thing was not "believing" the technology but how it would gain acceptance when you couldn't get clear answers on things and its difficulty to make transactions.
It was funny because it was made as a way to help transactions, yet from an investment perspective, it was quite difficult then and still to this day.
I still research it and believe in it, but I am not ready to put large money into it.

I remember the thread on the OT where he was pimping it at 50 a share but he already had X amount of shares at that point as well.
Now if he sat on those shares then sure he is loaded, like 70 million or so...

I have no idea of his net worth, but he was probably the wealthiest active poster, but there are several members, who rarely post, worth tens of millions.
