The Formula 1 company has announced a multi-year analogue and digital partnership with ESPN, the US cable and satellite sports broadcaster, which is part of the ABC empire, which is itself owned by the Walt Disney Company. The first F1 broadcast in the US was by ABC, back in 1962. The deal begins in March next year and will (presumably) bring to an end the current arrangements with rival NBC. The United States Grand Prix will be broadcast on ABC, with all the races being broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN2 or ABC. More than 125 hours of Formula 1 programming, including all practice sessions, qualifying and races, will be shown live and in replay across ESPN platforms.

Awesome, more driving.

Is every single race in F1 called a Grand Prix?

ESPN overpaying for the rights to show a sport (loose term here), what could possibly go wrong?

That didn't appear to happen at all in this case.

Do you think the added resources of Disney helps F1 in the country?
I somewhat recall a push when Michael left CART to go to F1 there was coverage, but he failed so badly it seemed it set the sports viewership back. Wasn't the Senna dominant years on ESPN also?

Hope they get Buxton, Matchett, Diffey, and Hobbs as commentators. Otherwise this is going to suck... like PGA tour on Fox level of suck.

Anything is better than BEin sports MotoGP coverage where they insist on showing 10 secs of the pit boards every lap and another 10 secs of random crew members watching the broadcast and looking anxious in the pits.

I've never had one conversation in my life with anyone about formula one racing.

From what I can gather none of the NBC guys will be on the broadcast team. It appears ESPN is going to show the Sky feed with possible commentators in Bristol.

Happy day. Going to Austin this weekend for F1. Excited to finally be able to wash it.

it's time for Formula One to get woke

It’s easy to get into. Multiple manufacturers, $30m+ salaries, 200mph down historic streets. They just need to ditch the turbos.

They're going to broadcast the world feed, which is what NBC does. NBC also has their broadcast team in the studio except for a few races (Monaco, Canada, US). From that standpoint it won't be any different on ESPN.
NBC was also paying $3 million/yr for the rights and it sounds like ESPN won't be paying anything at all.

A number of things led to Michael Andretti's 'failure' in F1. He picked exactly the wrong year to go there.

I can’t tell if you’re serious. But all the commentators other than Will Buxton should have been fired at NBC years ago.

As much as ESPN is under fire this should help the F1 brand in the States since NBC sports is forgotten sans Olympic coverage. I figure that’s what the new owners of F1 want.
NASCAR is down and Indy is still terrible. Might as well push hard now To gain a foothold in the states.
