I graduate this May (from LSU) and landed a job in Port Arthur, Texas. I know no one lives in Port Arthur, so I figured I would start my search in Beaumont and that area. Any suggestions on neighborhoods/areas I should check out? I know that whole golden triangle area isn't the prettiest, but its the hand I've been dealt and I will sure as hell play it. Thanks for the help in advance and Geaux Tigers!

I have family that has lived in Nederland their whole lives. They like it.
Plus... BBQ crabs at Sartin's in Nederland...
The country side of Beaumont is nice... Real big houses on lots of land for real good prices.... I bet property taxes get you though

Nederland is nice. If I was working in PA , I would look there first. If you don't mind a little drive, there are some really nice hoods that have been built going West on 90 out of Beaumont towards China.

You can always check out Vidor too.

I've lived in Vidor my whole life, nothing to see here lol plus the entire town is rebuilding still. 90% took in water in some form or fashion. Since you're working in PA definitely Nederland, Groves or maybe Bridge City. If you're looking at Beaumont it just depends on what your preferences are. Nice houses off of Gladys and Delaware. Lumberton has some nice places to live now but it's a little bit of a drive to PA.

If you move to Beaumont, stick to the West End. I would try to find something in the Nederland or Groves area first.

Did not know that although I guess I should since most of that area got hit hard, especially around PA. We got flooded over here in Kingwood, on the NE side of H-town.

I have done so many pipeline jobs in Beaumont going back to the mid-90's, I feel like I do in fact live there. I would heavily lean Nederland or Groves. Not sure about Bridge City. However, I really like some of the homes going out towards China.

Yeah it's actually harder to find places that DIDNT get flooded than to find ones that did. It was real sad to get on Facebook and see almost everyone I know saying they lost almost everything.

I second what you said about the houses headed towards China. Some nice land and places getting developed out there.

Not to hijack...but one quick question for those living in the beaumont area, I grew up in Beaumont but haven't been down there in years. My aunt stated the water was 3 feet above the I-10 bridge over the Sabine. I find this hard to believe so can anyone confirm or put this horrific vision I have to rest?

Port Neches > Nederland. There's really no reason to live in Beaumont if you work in Port Arthur though. I work in Port Arthur and I'm about to buy a house in Port Neches. I go to Beaumont maybe 1x / month. That 69 and I-10 traffic during work commute hours just isn't worth it. You can get to Beaumont in 20 min from Port Neches and it makes more sense to do that when you need to as opposed to every week day on the commute.

3 feet sounds a bit excessive. A foot or so is probably right though

Maybe it was the Neches River bridge she was talking about.....which I think is a taller bridge.

Yeah just east of the Neches River Bridge it was more than 3-4 feet. Only passable via boat for a little while

I appears the the high school teachers are in serious need of some attention, so there's that.
