Meaning, do cellular companies improve their reception over time due to improved technology or whatever may be the case?

I live in an area that gets terrible cell service, I deal with it but it sure would be a lot nicer if service improves.

Cellular companies contract construction of towers. They then have the option of leasing some tower space to other carriers.

You need to call and complain and have neighbors complain to see if someone is willing to pay to construct a tower. The bad news is that right now, most of the big carriers are not investing a ton. T-mobile is the carrier spending the most money on new growth.

To answer your question, if you live in a rural area, the reception probably won't get better. I moved to Ruston in 2011. Even with Verizon, I can't use my phone in some of the smaller towns up here.
