Listening to Steve Prator talk makes me so very glad that I moved away from Louisiana. I knew Steve in high school. He dated my sister. I took speech classes in order to learn how not to sound like a cousin fricking, backwoods, swamp water redneck like Steve Prator sounds. Whenever I go back to visit, I will attend church with my parents. Everyone sounds just like that and my wife tells me that after a few days around them I tend to fall back into old speech mannerisms for a few days so I try to avoid customer contact for at least three days after visiting so I can go back to sounding like a normal person that isn't straight off the cotton patch.

Jesus. How insecure you must be to be scared of having an accent.

Nothing wrong with an accent...it's the stupidity that comes out of the mouth that is the problem.

You have low self esteem. Man up Nancy.
Let me guess. You grew up in South Shreveport?

Dear Lord you sound like one of those douchebags that regrets we have “fly over deplorable” country. Sorry you are ashamed of your heritage and family. Just get a “White Privilege” tattoo so you can fit right in with your buddies and you will be fine.

What horrible fricking accent could you possibly have coming from Shreveport?

I don't see the racism in his comments but I do see the issue of subsidized free labor. I went back to DeSoto Parish recently. Racism is alive and well there but so are the some of the issues that plague the black community. Thankfully murder and violent crime aren't among the issues.

I learned how to speak non-country black person English when I was kid because I didn't want my accent to be a barrier to opportunity. Still there is a certain beauty to the ability to slur and blend words together. I don't get to Louisiana much and I'm losing my ear for the speech. It is a bit embarrassing to have to ask people to repeat themselves.
