re: Various Media articles: What was said in Alleva’s meeting with coaches?

He said "directing the management of the offense and defense" from behind the scenes (closed door meetings with the coaches). Have you not read or listened to the reports? ... That is EXACTLY what is being reported happenned! Call it what you want, management or directing or play calling or direction... it's all basically the same however one spins it:, An AD meddling in the coaching staff during the season. Highly unprecedented and is why Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez went on record with his comments about it and the LSU situation.

So that I am clear, you really believe that Alleva is directing the offense and defense from behind the scenes?
Posted on 10/12/17 at 9:16 am to Chicken
Depends what you mean by "directing the offense" If he had a meeting and told the coaches who's running the offense then Yes, he is absolutely directing the offense. Are you talking about calling plays?? I don't think that's what JPLSU or anyone is insinuating and you must be misinterpreting the reports and posts. Well, let's hope JoeAlleva isn't calling plays, but I don't think anyone ever asserted that to begin with.
and i have no opinion, because it appears to be fact that Joe Alleva had a closed door meeting with the coaches (O and 2 coordinators as reported by the Advocate) and changed the power structure. Call it what you want, but that's the story here and what Landry got multiple sources to confirm happenned.

It could be true or maybe it isn't, but Chris Landry reporting what sounds like 2nd hand information is not something I'm jumping to believe. I could see how someone seeking validation for their opinions would buy into it,
Btw when is the last time Landry has been relevant? He always cites shite he did 20 years ago. The only time I hear him is on shite radio shows saying how he held sabans clip board

Okay, point taken that it could be a rumor that our AD was watching film with our HC, or it could be true. Either way, is this particular question of our AD more important than anything factually confirmed?
That's a rhetorical question, btw.

What do you think "directing the offense and defense" means? Seems clear to me.
We all know about the meeting with Alleva, O, and the coordinators. That isn't the story. That is old news.
The alleged story is that Alleva is attending film sessions with O every Sunday and "directing the offense and defense from the background". Sounds exaggerated and a tad made up.

I think you're misinterpreting or overanalyzing? to a small extent. If Joe Alleva is telling the coaches who is in charge of the offense, how is that not "directing the offense" ? This seems pretty clear cut to me. Typically the HC makes those decisions in just about every program, not the AD.
in other words, the Head coach directs the offense and every area of the team, not the AD. If there was a meeting where Joe Alleva changed who is in charge of the offense, that is absolutely Alleva directing the offense... Hell, do you need him to show up on the sideline with a headset??
there are confirmed reports that Joe Alleva had a closed-door (aka behind the scenses) meeting and specifically changed the power structure of the offense and who is running it. This is not speculation or rumors anymore.

I think it was a poor use of wording meant for effect.

maybe, probably... But it doesn't make it wrong. All news paper headlines and TV headlines go for effect, we're use to that. It grabs attention
nonetheless, the effect isn't the story... Alleva and the meeting with coaches and what was said is the story. and you've now got multiple people (The Advocate, Chris Landry, YahooSports) all coorborating the same thing. Whether it's based on Landry's report or not, it doesn't matter, they're reporting it and everyone deserves to see and make up their own mind.
If you're getting hung up on strict word-for-word definition of "directing the offense" then IMO you're missing the forrest for the trees.

When you have to call in your boss to lay down the law with your own staff, that kind of news never gets old, and especially not within the workplace of said staff. Not saying anything you don't already know, though.

Chicken, if this story is truly “played out,” then won’t the thread sink on its own?
I see no reason to anchor this thread.

Are you kidding? Blood is in the water surrounding Alleva and Orgeron. We'd speculate on this for weeks.

Wow.
Well, now I understand what "anchored" means.
Silly me I had it confused with "stickied".

Orgeron has attributed his failure at Ole Miss to his inability to delegate at the time. He got hired there mostly due to his recruiting prowess, he is a d-line coach with very little coordinator experience.
The selling point for him to be coach at LSU was with him getting a reduced salary from what LSU would pay Jimbo Fisher, LSU could hire top coordinators. LSU now has two of the highest paid coordinators in college football. Orgeron supposedly was going to let them do their thing.
I didn't like the idea of having a head coach whose strength was basically as a recruiter and motivator. But having two great coordinators did soften the blow.
Then after Troy game we learn that Orgeron, who has no offensive background, is meddling with the offense and overriding Canada.
It sounds to me like the meeting was Alleva trying to manage the dysfunctional coaching triumvirate he created.
It is kind of sad that our AD has to tell our head coach to leave the coaching to others, but it seems like that is where we are.

People are confusing the word "report" with "sources." There could be 1,000 reports, but so far, they are all citing just one source--Chris Landry--who admittedly was not in any meetings himself. Therefore, by definition, the reports are unconfirmed. And Landry is an attention-whore who loves to hear himself talk. As such, I'm not sure he is as well connected as some might think. Why would anybody tell him anything juicy knowing he is going to go on every radio show in the south and his own podcast to shout it the minute it enters his ears?
That said, the meeting(s) could have happened. And if so, that's a fricking joke, and a sign of the wheels falling off.

That's where I was, attitude-wise. Then (like you say), O admitted to meddling with the offense - something he told everyone at several press conferences he wouldn't do.

I'll see your "kind of sad", and raise you an "outrageous, inexcusable situation".
A program rated by the Wall Street Journal as being worth $900m + and the front end of it looks like a Popeye's franchise.

Tombstone - great movie.
A little strong on the "attention whore", given he makes a living via media. Who isn't an attention whore in the media? People who aren't in the media business long, that's who.
Whether Alleva is watching film or not, it should be obvious to everyone that a head coach shouldn't need his AD to say what's what with the coordinators. That happened, in the real world, and it certainly doesn't bode well for the future of our staff (in terms of sticking around), nor for the future of LSU football (in terms of hiring new staff to fill the gaps). Wheels already coming off before any of this film room talk. IMO.

Did I miss something here? Was there something that was actually reported that was said in the meeting other than "they watched film."
