the 3rd and 15 out route felipe franks threw was a perfect example. that play worked because the receiver made the cut and the ball was there when he turned around. thats a really hard play for a college DB to make.

Etling is trying to wait til the receiver is already open before he will risk throwing the ball. that isnt how routes work, good DBs for almost every SEC team we are going to face will recover by the time u see the guy open and throw it and the ball gets there. that window on a cut is designed to get u open long enough to catch the ball, like half a second. it isnt supposed to be long enough that u are open then the qb throws it and then u catch it. this is D1 football, not high school

it depends if it is a TIMING ROUTE or not. zone or man makes a dfference also. if it is man like on a cross or drag he can wait and just make sure he leads him. outs and corners need to be on time leading out the break...with zone you throw it in the hole. again the route type matters also.

Agree with this analysis. DE for whatever reason doesn't seem to fully trust WR route running with well timed throws. I tried to isolate on WR routes, and noticed though they are not creating separation. Add to that a "risk adverse" philosophy for QB to be a "game manager" and DE seems to not trust throws at cuts on time with routes.
