Backyard Visitor

My buddy/co-worker had this bear come thru his backyard. Not the first visit, as his trash can was destroyed before this encounter. He lives between Gulf Breeze & Navarre on the sound side- south of Hwy 98. Not uncommon for the area, especially on the north side of 98, where the land borders Eglin AFB.

You post pics like I would, if I could post pics.

Thanks, lol. I've had issues for sure. Doing it all from my phone, if that's a legitimate excuse.

pretty cool footage...but you better tell your buddy to quit walking up on this kind of animal or he is going to get his arse eaten up.

Like a giant Coon. Especially if you try and pet one

black bears are really passive animals unless it's a mama bear around her cubs--at least in that part of the country anyway.
My only complaint is that it's 2017 and people are still shooting videos vertically on their cell phones

I had this one earlier in September. Coincidentally just off Hwy. 98 but well east, south of Tallahassee on the coast. Black bears are not that uncommon in the Florida panhandle. It was the first I'd seen in a year, though. Last year I had a mom with 3 cubs that made life interesting for a couple of months. They definitely will tear through garbage and bird seed.

Black bears killed two people in Ak this summer and attacked a few more. I saw several on trails that were fairly aggressive. While most may be docile, the rare one who isn't will be a huge problem. This was the first summer I felt a little nervous on some of the trails.

My BIL & SIL live down that way (Wakulla) on a 5 acre lot. BIL decides to put a deer feeder to see what he could see. Only thing he was feeding was a mama & her cubs, which he captured on a game camera. Destroyed their garbage can a few times before he wisely removed the feeder.

That's nice. Would enjoy watching a bear in my yard while drinking coffee in the mornings
It didn't seem big or a threat.

We recently had one roaming around about 20 miles south of Columbia, SC that someone caught on their deer cams. Most of the bears in SC are confined to the mountains near the NC border, or in Marion, Horry, and Williamsburg county on the coast.

The black bears range all through central FL. They walk around sub divisions with out fear. Friend got several pictures of a 300 lb bear under his feeder. Another saw one in his garage eating the dogs food. The laws protecting them are ridiculous.
