Its a smart model. They are probably still the king of network tv with their shows like Big Band Theory, NCIS, Blue Bloods, Elementary, etc...
The people that watch those shows arent the ones that are cutting the cord. They skew to an older audience, and thats why they win.
This new thing they are trying is to get the people that have already cut the cord. It might work. It might not, but doing it isnt taking away any of their viewers.

Its funny, my wife and I were talking about CBS with some friends the other night. None of us at the table watch 1 show on CBS or have for the past 5 years, yet they kill it in the ratings.
I dont know anyone who watches a show on CBS. the Demo must 50+

Big Bang, Survivor, Supergirl and Two Broke Girls is an older audience?
CBS skews toward cheapskates who are rocking digital antennas from Wal-Mart.
And NBC, ABC and CBS all get the senior citizen audience who don't know how to use Netflix and Hulu.
