It will be interesting to see the NBA CBB ratings. If there is any backlash from Pop, LeBron and others comments.
It's the act of protesting during the national anthem that people have a problem with.

For not being as wise as you
(Now watch some jackass downvote the dog)

Crappy game, weather delay, and a decent-sized group of people are unhappy with the NFL. All contributed and it would be foolish to dismiss any of them.

There are some pissed off white folk around. The opinions is what lead to the protest and the pissed off people just lump everything in together, rightly or wrongly.
ETA; I was going to make a Rocket joke about crowds and all but then realized it would not matter as you could not tell anyway.

lsupride the same people who are defending the NFL sagging ratings cheer ESPN ratings drop. I am not sure what to make of this place anymore, other than any post I make gets a downvote.
Pretty sure pride is on the opposite side you suggested. He thinks the anthem protests and backlash are the main reason for the decline the past two years.

The NFL ratings are from the protest somewhat but not entirely, It is an oversaturation of the market I believe. People get "footballed" out by the time MNF comes along.

Plus Monday Night is not the prime slot anymore, it is Sunday Night.

Sports where people literally beat the shite out of each other (boxing and MMA) are still around today and are popular.
Football isn't going anywhere. You might not have the same level of talent in the future due to kids not playing it because of the risks, but it's not going anywhere.
This. I'm never going to stop watching college or NFL football unless some really fricked up repugnant shite goes down. We have not reached anywhere near those levels. Long live FOOTBALL!

Yeah, it's pretty easy to tune out their off court actions as long as they stay off the court.

I think they'll end the year down, but so far, so good for the NFL.
And on top of that, you think they'll end up being down this year as well.

There has been a lot of shootings in Chicago the past year.

Right!?!?
I am on tour in Sheboygan on the 3rd, Whitewater the 5th, Peoria on the 10th, then a 2 week stint in the Poconos starting the 17th. You get tickets at Ticketmaster or at the box office. Good seats still available.

There are individual factors for all television shows and sports, but there is an undeniable shift away from traditional TV and viewing habits.
18-34 year olds watch 45% less traditional TV ( set-top boxes, DVR, Video-on-demand) than they did 6 years ago. They're spending that time on streaming services like Hulu and Netflix, but that shift is still significant.

I'm just pointing out it hasn't gotten worse yet for the NFL.
The people that left last year haven't really tuned back in this year. The NFL still gets monster ratings, just not the ratings they've had in the past. This year isn't down Y-o-Y yet, so that's better than the alternative for the NFL.

Maybe I shouldn't have said it's going to completely die but it's not going to be as insanely popular as it is now. It's probably going to be some watered down version too. If kids grow up focusing on other sports they're probably not going to be as interested in football as past generations.
