Anthem celebrates slavery
Black activist say the anthem is a celebration of slavery...
quote:
few people know this because we only ever sing the first verse. But read the end of the third verse and you’ll see why “The Star-Spangled Banner” is not just a musical atrocity, it’s an intellectual and moral one, too:
No refuge could save the hireling and slave From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave, And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave. “The Star-Spangled Banner,” Americans hazily remember, was written by Francis Scott Key about the Battle of Fort McHenry in Baltimore during the War of 1812. But we don’t ever talk about how the War of 1812 was a war of aggression that began with an attempt by the U.S. to grab Canada from the British Empire.

Black activists are literally making things up to get triggered over, literally.

I basically interpret this as nobody was escaping the grasp of death during the war neither a hired hand or a slave.

The frick? Mentioning slavery doesn't automatically mean glorifying it.

frick it. Let's get rid of it and replace it with Lil Wayne so black people and white leftists will shut the frick up

In fairness, it has also been argued that Key may have intended the phrase as a reference to the British Navy’s practice of impressment (kidnapping sailors and forcing them to fight in defense of the crown), or as a semi-metaphorical slap at the British invading force as a whole (which included a large number of mercenaries), though the latter line of thinking suggests an even stronger alternative theory — namely, that the word “hirelings” refers literally to mercenaries, and “slaves” refers literally to slaves. It doesn’t appear that Francis Scott Key ever specified what he did mean by the phrase, nor does its context point to a single, definitive interpretation.

I would not expect less of them.
This seems to be the end game of tearing apart the fabric of America.

Didn't become the Anthem until 1939.
In case you didn't know it, we had no national anthem until 1939.
They definitely made the wrong choice because it is a terrible anthem.
Both...
America, My country Tis of Thee
and
America the Beautiful are much better.
America, My country Tis of Thee has a downside and it is because the music is God Save the King/Queen

Trump should make Dixie the national anthem for a week just to trigger the hell out of them.

The slaves that escaped and were freed joined the British to fight the Americans. They were enemy combatants. They joined with the promise to be let go after the war to Canada and the Carribean. This is a BS argument and a Red Herron the BLM has come up with. They have twisted history to fit their agenda.

Those that are down voting me for saying the Star Spangled Banner is awful...
Do you seriously think it is better than the other 2 songs I listed?

Absolutely! It just so happens to be right!

Thinking the other two are better does not automatically mean you think the anthem is terrible. I like Sgt. Peppers better than Revolver. That doesn't mean I think Revolver is terrible.
