What started as a discussion on whether this could cause issues with footing while climbing the ladder, turned into a discussion on whether having a ladder that looks like something natural (vines) opposed to a typical ladder actually has merit, or is it gimmicky.

What say the OB?

I say it can't hurt

Not many straight/geometric lines natural in the woods

Assuming deer ladder stand here, so you want to blend in with the vines while wearing a neon bright orange vest or jacket?

You don't understand how a deer's eyes work do you?

Thanks for playing though

It's definitely gimmicky as frick.

Whether it's worth your money, then that's your call. It can't hurt, but the top part is still obviously unnatural and I'm in the camp that believes deer see movement above all else. I hunt in dense woods at close ranges, in all open stands all season. I've had deer stare straight at me from 10 yards away and eventually relax if I didn't flinch. Also been busted from 45 yards out because I didn't know the deer was there and moved.

While I don't disagree, It retails for roughly double the price of comparable stands, probably a hell of a lot heavier also. Add in the fact that the steps are rounded with potentially muddy boots and the space between steps is significantly smaller than a traditional ladder, and the cons outweigh the pros for me.

So pines planted in rows are naturally occurring?

While I see your point, this picture you posted isn't really "natural". Those are all planted pine rows.

A lot less straight lines in a natural growth wooded area.

I've just personally never got in my ladder stand and said "I don't smell, I'm not moving, but I'd feel like I'm concealed a hell of a lot better if it weren't for these damn linear legs and steps on this ladder stand." I don't think it's ever cost me a deer, and I'm pretty sure it's becomes "natural" once it's been there long enough. Much more so than a couple 4x8 sheets of plywood 15' in the air in the middle of a field which seems to be working pretty well for a lot of people.

That post was more tongue-in-cheek than making an argument

realistically though, there are less horizontal lines in the undergrowth than vertical. Id think rungs on a ladder would stand out more than the sides

Good point, deer are terrified of planted pines.

Looks like the design makes it stand out more when viewed from the side. Definitely a gimmick.
