Do the protesters and their supporters actually want to have an honest conversation about the "issues" motivating the kneelers as they say, which means listening to counter arguments and defending their claims? I contend that they don't and that this issue is completely unresolvable as a result.

Correct. They want to make these statements for their own self aggrandizement.

Like I've seen someone say - If the cops want dead black people, they would just stop patrolling the hood.

Well just like those that protest and shutdown speakers who they don't agree with. This is not a discussion. Kneeling throws out a statement with no dialogue or chance for any meeting of the minds. Add in that they decided to use disrespecting the flag and anthem and you get animosity to them as a whole.
