You have it all wrong-I say Etling's role here is to manage the game-sort of Like McCarron at Bama. Utilize the talent around him.

We don't know where he ranks. And we won't unless he gets some pass protection, and his supporting cast helps him out by eliminating drops. He will be the starter through the next SEC game. If we drop another conference game, I see us playing Brennan for next year.

Yep, every team in the SEC has great pass protection and never drops balls.
The excuse of pass protection is stupid. Make better play calls that will give you the best chance to succeed given your shortfalls.

Yeah-I see he's really tearing it up there!!!

My point is that Etling probably won't be an NFL QB-but he can be an effective college QB similar to McCarron or McElroy....manage the game, make some throws and don't get the team in trouble.

He'll be OK, BUT if he keeps staring down his target it's going to be a long year

McCarron was only that his first year starting, he was a playmaker after that. McElroy lost 3 games his last year at Bama.
Game mangers don't win championships anywhere but Bama and they don't game managers anymore either.

He ranks below the bottom, like in a toilet, some turds float with paper, but the really heavy turds sink all the way to the bottom

He's at the bottom. Even Vandy has a better QB.

OK. Well, Etling is 10 out of 14 in QB rating with a 138.7. McCarron in 2012 was 175.3 and 167.2 in 2013. And that's over a complete schedule with McCarron.

Not saying Etling can't do it, because I really don't know. However, I will venture to guess he won't get close to that rating by season's end. So, if what McCarron did is game management and I agree it is, what does that make Etling? Etling doesn't perform as well as other QB's under pressure to date.

other than guice i don't think there's that much talent around him to utilize.

Maybe the better play calls with the understanding of what Danny Etling is has dictated running the ball as much as we have even when the game is "starting" to slip away.
It's becoming clear they don't quite have the confidence needed in him as a play-maker at the position you would want to be more balanced against SEC opponents. He seems streaky to me. In other words, either it's going to go well or not from game to game.

That is not an accurate ranking system. 4 times the touchdowns, higher comp. percentage, less sacks, and the same amount of ints for Hurts, but he ranks behind Danny hahaha

It's sad when an MSU fan (who's team just kicked our arse) is the most complimentary and objective when talking about our QB.

AJ McCarron averaged 2900 yards passing and 28 td's (adjusted to 13 game per year average) his last two years in college. Danny is on pace for 2300 yards and 5 tds's (rounding up). I'm not going to sit here and bash a college kid, there are multiple problems with the passing game, just pointing out that his play is not comparable to AJ McCarron.

AJ started at Alabama and won a title. Danny could not find the field at Purdue. That is a terrible comparison.
