but what about the lack of money during the 90's and even during the 2000's?

LSU received a lot more state funding back then, was open enrollment, had lower tuition, and had a LOT higher enrollment. Basically, they weren't exactly hurting for money in the 90's and 2000's.

LA was swimming in money in the early and mid 00's. The Stelly Plan raised a lot of $ oil was booming and the state had all the post Katrina/Rita pouring in. Fast forward Stelly has been repealed, oil has crashed and federal $ money flow has stopped.

Not surprising the leaders of the state thought the party would never stop. And they got fricked when it all crumpled.

I can remember in the 1990's LSU had a problem with funding and it was Larry Bankston , a state senator from Baton Rouge, who commented that that LSU lacked the level of private donations that other state universities even in the south received . I can remember Bud Davis complaining about it

F King though is not the problem. The state legislature in recent years has felt it acceptable to cut higher ed funding anytime there is a budget issue. You can only hit up the likes of Jim Flores only so much .

I've mentioned before, that one way to solve this problem is to call a state constitutional convention in order to allow for adequate state funding....but we'll never do that. Butt that does not address why so many LSU alumni do not donate ANYTHING to the overall fund. I've been giving 2500 a year for the last 8 years and they absolutely kiss my arse because of it. I have a good friend who is a Tennessee grad and 2500 maybe gets you a thank you card
