Brees was already gone before the season even started

All these threads about "Will Brees leave for a contender?" are kind of silly when the fact is the Saints were set to draft Mahomes with their 1st round pick.
Mahomes would have sat this year, and then given the start for the 2018 season. I don't see how anything will change as the Saints approach the draft next April. Either they will have sucked enough to acquire a top pick, or they will make a massive trade on draft day to move up to acquire their guy.
It's a forgone conclusion at this point that Brees will be gone after the season ends. The real question is will Sean Payton be here as well to handpick the new successor.

If Brees leaves and Payton stays I would be very intrigued with adding Bortles. I would love to see what Payton could do with Bortles. I think he's got a ton of potential and can be really really good

Making a massive trade for your guy early in draft is fine. If Bree's goes, I would almost rather Payton stay because I think he could at least prep the new guy even if the rest of the team is just meh. Who knows maybe not having Brees as a crutch may light a fire under him like in the Panthers game where I though he did some of his best fishing in years.

I honestly think the real answer would be Garrapolo. Pats won't pay him 24 mil to sit behind Brady next year.

I don't agree with this.

But I do agree with this. I doubt we fork out money to Cousins and I think we just move up to draft Josh Allen.

Did you post this thought before the game Monday night?

Wow this board can be crazy. It was one game guys. O line with one rookie and one second year guy and a center that basically didn't practice during the offseason. All against a top 5 D line. Our corners sucked, but they always do.
There's no good reason for the Saints or Brees to deal with the contract this year. I don't know if he will be back or not, but can we step away from the edge and stop the Bortles and Cousins talk?
