$1000 bucks for what?

1) They needed to limit demand somehow since they couldn't get enough OLED screens to make this just the new model at the same price.

2) Apple likes to charge it's customers as much as they are able to.

3) They actually have added some nifty camera tech on the front of the phone. Considering how much this board skews to adult men, most here won't see the value in it. For people that like posting selfies, especially SnapChat filter selfies, ie kids and women, this will be the phone to have for a while.

OK, if that's important to you. I bet your current phone will accomplish basically the same thing without the little nifty camera tech thing. Just another $1000 bucks to blow though.... It's not just supply and demand either. There really isn't a supply yet. They just want to see if the demand for the phone is a bust or not. So far there have been enough people to carry them even though the Android phones have had many of their "new" features before the latest I phone comes out. At some point it's going to bite Apple in the rear end. $1000 or more for phone/camera/internet is just about there for the masses. That's a high threshold when you can by a really nice tablet or laptop for the same or less.
