That logo's been around for a long time. Check out the helmets LSU wore in the early to mid-1970s.

not exactly. The version on the flag is a newer version of the "helmet tiger" that was on our helmets in the early 70's and also from the version from the mid-70s up to a couple years ago.
Slight differences, so most people probably can't tell much of a difference, but they cleaned up the tiger head a bit.
