Who regressed more: Les Miles post-2011 or Sean Payton post-2013?

The latter years of both these guys' tenures have been forgettable to say the least...
Saints need to change ownership, fire Payton, trade Brees, blow up the roster and star over. The Brees-Payton era is well and truly over.
Just imagine what Brees could have done on a team with a semblance of a defense. He could have probably won another ring like Peyton before he retired. Such a shame.

Peyton was yoked up on pills so not a fair comparison. Sober is hard.

I fricking hate rooting for Louisiana sports sometimes. At least miles is gone though

Still could if he gets traded to Denver.

Guy was the best coach in the league that wasn't a legend and you all ran him off. LSU football deserves what it gets.

In 2006 maybe. He regressed a lot

Sean regressed more than les. Bountygate ended the run.
Les was michigan-run-beast all along.

Les Miles never regressed because Les Miles was never good. He went from bad to bad.

They have the same fundamental problem: cronyism. Les went down with Cameron and Peveto. Payton went down with McMahon and Vitt.
But what I saw last night was depressing though. Payton has always been a "WTF?" play caller. They just all went right in 2009. He's the kind of coach who will run a double reverse on 4th and 1 because nobody's expecting it. But last night was so predictable and conservative that it drove me crazy. "I'm gonna run Adrian Peterson every snap he's in the game because everyone expects me to use him as a decoy. I'm never going to pass in goal-to-go situations because everyone expects me to call a pass. I'm gonna run off right tackle the play after Strief gets hurt because who's gonna predict that. And at the end of the game I'm just gonna pad Brees and Ingram's stats because they think I'm gonna try to win the game." What you saw last night shouldn't surprise anyone though.

I don't think Denver could make they work cap wise.

Who do the Saints have to throw the ball to?
Why did they get rid of Graham? Why did they get rid of Cooks?
Their defense has been trash for years, but getting rid of your weapons on offense is bizarre.

Graham was soft and a bit of a diva, and they sold high. Cooks ran his mouth after the Rams game when he got no targets, and Payton never forgets. I have no problem getting rid of them.
Sproles was the one I had the problem with. The offense still hasn't recovered.

Miles and Saban were the only ones left when LSU fired him.

If Oklahoma State beats Iowa State in 2011, LSU goes down as the greatest team ever. LSU losing caused a bad karma that made us lose to the 49ers a few days later. LSU winning means we beat the 49ers and likely win the Super Bowl, meaning Bountygate never happens, and LSU and the Saints are still top-tier teams to this day.
So if you want to think about it, Iowa State destroyed college AND professional football in Louisiana.

That is what you call a systemic problem. Lousinana is a crony shithole

Saints FO needs a change. Loomis should have been let go around 2014. Payton can still be good but it'd help if he had some brains in the suit positions that could help bring in some defensive talent.

I'll allow it.

So because of the political climate in this state, Miles and Payton was supposed to just go with that flow in their respective roles?

If there was a way to keep Brees and get rid of SP, I'd do it. I think they are a package deal though - if SP isn't there when Brees is a FA, I doubt he'll re-sign, and I think he wants one more deal so he can go after Favre's and Mannings's records.
To answer your question, I think SP regressed more. Sean has led some of the greatest offenses in NFL history and 2009-2013 (excluding his Bountygate suspended year) was by far the greatest run in Saints history. It was sustained NFL success which is tough.
Les won a ton of games and had a great run, but his luck just ran out and he couldn't find/develop a good QB. In the past, he'd win on the last second and pull out wins like at Auburn last year. He was excellent at managing a program but not coaching necessarily. Eventually, a few management miscues will catch up to you.
