Is the casino itself in a bad area? I'm not sure why the gf picked that location, but we will move to the Marriott if we need to.

Which Casino are you staying at? The one with the hotel downtown is fine...and there's quite a few good bars you can walk to from there on 3rd street. Lauberge is the newer/nicer casino but there's not much around it

No but the majority of the patrons are from bad areas

Middling at best. However, the area between the casino and campus is like a demilitarized zone.

You'll be fine, but as others have said the area in between campus and downtown is rough. That's where our RB Derrius Guice is from and you can learn a little bit about it from hearing his story: The Bottom

As others have said, the North Gates of campus are a great place to start. Talk to the front desk at the hotel and they should be able to set you up on the shuttle to the game. There are a few decent bars right here at the gates if you want to start your day there. Alcohol and Food will no doubt be offered to you for free though so don't blow out the budget. From there, make your way down highland road and turn right on Dalrymple. This will take you to the Parade Grounds and Indian Mounds others have mentioned. You'll know it when you see it. I'd stay away from the fraternities on the parade grounds as I have seen them give visitors a less than friendly welcome before (throwing beer at them, fights etc.). Most older fans will heckle you with a "Tiger Bait!". This is in good fun and is an invitation to come up and talk football. Most will get a good laugh if you try to trash talk back.

Wander around campus and you'll have all the fun you need. Literally any direction you walk you will find tailgaiters. Go see the new Mike the Tiger and the team and the band march down Victory Hill.

I have plenty of recommendations for bars/restaurants/sites in NOLA too if you want to talk about that.

The casino is downtown so the location is fine...its just that when you go toward campus from the casino you have to go through the hood.

The casino you are staying at is called the Belle and of the 2 casino/hotels in BR, it is by far and away the "trashy" one. I've heard the rooms aren't very nice, either.

The Belle is north of campus. If you want to stay at the nice casino/hotel, look up L'Auberge online. It's south of campus and is remote, but it's extremely nice.

If you don't want to stay at a casino and only care about your hotel room as a place to sleep, then you are fine where you are.

You'll be good at the casino - but as others have mentioned it's rough between there and the stadium. Ask the Uber to bring you to the North or South gates of campus and walk around with an ice chest. Many Tiger fans will welcome you with food and drinks. You'll still run into the occasional douche fans, but that happens anywhere. Enjoy your time.
