For the Dreamers that have been here 10+ years, why aren't they citizens?

I see this Dreamers who are in their 20s crying about being deported, saying they've been here all their life, etc.
So why aren't you citizens? Why have you not gone through the naturalization process? If you've been here for over a decade, there isn't an excuse.

How long does a person have to stay here in order to be grandfathered in to citizenship or some other legal status? What about someone who snuck in at 20 and is now 60?

There's no such thing and that's not the correct use of the phrase grandfathered in.
We haven't changed the law from illegals are automatic citizens to now they're not.
Just like maids and nannies have been deported that worked here for over 40 years for families. They get education, health care and DL's - but nobody is giving them a fricking U.S. passport. You can't break into a house and then be recognized as the legal owner.
