Have all the big cities in America turned into violent/ugly places?

Have they always been cesspools of violence, drugs, mentallly ill leftists, rampant homelessness, and degeneracy? Every city in America seems to be trashy and only getting worse with most of their Mayors supporting dangerous policies such as Sanctuary cities and strict gun control. Has it always been this way?

This is what happens when Democrats run the big cities for several decades in a row...

No - post-Reagan (and Giuliani had a lot to do with it in NYC), some urban areas experienced a rebirth with additional resources - there was particular emphasis attacking the crime associated with cocaine trafficking in Miami, for example. Atlanta, NYC, Washington D.C. - all rose up from being considered relatively crime ridden to relatively prosperous (within reason - you still have to mind your cross streets, alleys, and times of day, baw).
On the other hand, we've seen the utter collapse - particularly in the rust belt, of places like Detroit and Chicago (although parts of Chicago are still pretty awesome, the general collapse is driving a net downward trend - think Detroit 25 or 30 years ago.)
Jackson, for example is bad off, but I don't think they were ever in the category of some of the great U.S. cities. Ditto for New Orleans.

The worst cities as far as violence goes are in the Midwest and South. St. Louis, Memphis, New Orleans, Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, etc.
You don't have nearly the extent of those problems in cities like Boston, New York (for how big it is), Denver, Salt Lake, Portland, etc.
It's racist to say it's demographics, but that is the truth. The first list of cities I named all have large black populations.
Cities in New England and the west coast (outside of California) do not.

No. Every big city has rough areas and nice areas. Chicago has wonderful areas. Detroit has wonderful areas. Every place also has crime infested areas.
But your response to all of the right wing propaganda should be to hide in your little hiding place and stay away from cities.

Until white flight takes place. Then the areas all become shitholes.

This is happening to Shreveport. And the pace is accelerating.

White flight was a Baby Boomer thing.
White millennials are moving back into the cities.

Are you serious? No, seriously, are you serious? Have you ever travelled at all?
You sound like a stereotypical 80 year old elderly man in his underpants drinking cheap beer and screaming at his television.

I've lived in Nola, Boston and Houston. Nola was fun because I was young but I was ready to gtfo due to the rampant corruption and the fact that it was an economic backwater. Boston and Houston have been awesome. Neither was/is a "cesspools of violence, drugs, mentallly ill leftists, rampant homelessness, and degeneracy"...I think you've watched too many movies or 24 hr news. Nola, though....

Do you think this is happening all over Chicago or in a small enclave in the city? Have you ever visited a city?

Birmingham is like that but they really seem to have turned some things around and making the city center much more livable.
