Edlemans body of work was never impressive until 2013. His highest number of catches in a season was 37 before he went off for 105 in 2013

You are a pats fan so you are gonna be bias. I don't even have an NFL team so no bias here. Just looking at talent and opportunity Marshall has got him beat on both of those safely IMO.

People called me a homer whenever I said Edelman could replace Welkers production when he left as a FA.
It's not like I'm telling you that Malcolm Mitchell is the next Moss, there's a very clear line of production and opportunity for Hogan. Those billion targets that Edelman usually got will go somewhere, and I'll bet my money on the guy who earned Brady's trust last year and is a more versatile weapon than any other they have

I'm on the Hogan train. Mainly because Mike Evans won't be playing :/

Amendola and Mitchell?

Amendola is on a limited snap count and Mitchell has been injured all offseason and never gained the rapport without brady last year that Hogan did.

I'm big on Hogan too, just ask anyone in the Auction League , but he isn't just sliding into Edelman's spot. Amendola, Mitchell, even Cooks and Burkhead or one of the White/Lewis backs will soak up many of those touches/targets out of the slot. Plus a healthy Gronk and Allen in the mix, I would expect some big weeks but several duds as well

Yes he is. That's the plan and that's the reason they made the move to get Dorset to get an outside receiving option to allow hogan to move inside. This has been reported by numerous local sources.
quote:
Amendola
Like I said is on a snap count and they want him healthy for the playoff run, not Week 1 slot routes
quote:
Mitchell
Ran exclusively as an outside WR last year. He is not a slot type WR
quote:
Cooks
Ran 92 percent of his routes in the preseason on the outside (he ran 62 percent on the outside with the Saints). Beat reporters have stated that this has been a common theme during training camp, they see Cooks as an outside WR, not a slot option
quote:
Burkhead
Situationally, but he is not taking a large load of slot snaps, they like him out of the backfield.
quote:
Plus a healthy Gronk and Allen in the mi
A healthy Gronk never stunted Julian's production, even last year with Gronk and Bennett on the field. And Allen has not been very impressive since arriving in NE

Sounds like you've got this under control.
Hogan over Marshall it is

The addition of dorsett suggests hogan is going inside. He ran out of the slot in both MIA and BUF previously. 37% of his snaps out of slot last season w/ Edelman. And hogan ran the most routes per game than any Pat WR
33% of his targets last year were in the slot. Of his 20 catches in the slot, 9 went for 20+ yards. He murdered people there
Brandin Cooks did not go to NE at the cost of a 1st rounder to run out the slot
Brandon Marshall has a lot to competition for targets in NY and Eli was a bottom 5 QB per PFF last season. Targets from him do not even guarantee production if he comes out inefficient again

Marshall and Decker ate with Fitzpatrick, I'm confident enough that he and Odell can do ok with Eli
Again, anyone in the Auction League should know they don't have to tell me about Hogan's value and potential role in the offense.
But this thread is specifically asking about Hogan vs Marshall.
I'm taking Marshall in that one

Boom, hogan is a 99 percentile athlete at WR. If he were black he'd be garnering young goul status. Chew on that

Marshall hasn't been good 2 of the last 3 years though. Whether it's partially him or his QB
In 28 games in '14 and '16 combined he went
120/1509/11 on 234 targets. Bad QBs are a bitch
In '15 he went 109/1502/14 on 173 targets. Fitz and Marshall had a great rapport
I love Marshall as much as the next guy but he's older and Eli is regressing. Historically Eli has only propped up 1 legit Fantasy WR outside of the year Cruz and Nicks went off. And that's when he was actually good
I want the guy who has more upside and I think that guy is hogan

Won't argue that. I do love his upside.
Definitely think Marshall has a safer floor though. To be fair, those two years you listed are the only two in the past TEN that he hadn't topped 1,000 and six of those 10 he topped 1,200 and had over 8 TDs in five of them. He's also historically dominant in his first year with a new team.
And especially early in the season Hogan could bust some weeks while the target order in the offense shakes itself out.

that was going to be my response, the SPARQ worshippers love hogan
Posted on 9/6/17 at 2:57 pm to Lester Earl
He never passed the eye test for me. And I'd be willing to bet that my eye test can pick a better football player than Going off some sparq score.

I'm laughing because you guys are trying to figure out a BB offense from week to week.
Gimme Brady and/ or Gronk. That's it!

Hogan is a guy who had the success he had bc the defense paid no attention to him. Once he draws the slightest bit of attention from the opposition you're gonna see his production go to very little a la last season.

With Gronk and cooks, how exactly do you expect the defense to focus in on stopping Hogan? Dude is gonna feast in the Edelman role
