You just made my point about common sense. I'm not saying the girl intended any harm but good judgement is lacking here. Would you be upset if that had been your seven year old daughter? I'd think so.

I'd be upset if I told them not to go out in the canoe and they did. Otherwise, I'd be glad she kept my daughter safe.

They were sitting in an old oil well site by Lake Martin, covered in mud, in order to protect themselves from mosquitos after going missing Monday evening. The pair was in good health, and they're being checked out at the hospital. The 7-year-old was extremely happy to be found and was seen laughing and in good spirits following the rescue.

Sounds like the babysitter knew what she was doing.

The sitter is originally from California. They likely went into the woods to look around because of the high water and lost their bearings as the sun got low in the sky. Totally innocent mistake with potentially serious consequences. They seem to have done ok. Bet neither one ever forgets the experience.

Most kids would want to take a kanoe ride. Cut the girl some slack. The efforts she made to keep them alive, including covering them in mud to avoid mosquitoes, shows she has a head on her shoulders.

you're coming off as an insufferable prick. If anything, this is a case of familiarity breeding contempt. Sitter probably took the kid out in the canoe numerous times. This time it went bad. shite happens. Its not bad judgement, carelessness, or something sinister (unless it is). Its a shite happens moment.
lesson learned and good job keeping the toddler safe.

OF course I reserve the right to retract this statement if the girl went canoeing against the parent's instructions
