Some kind of robocall system I guess from Lafayette sheriff called me at 11 last night to tell me about this. Did it call anyone else? Seems like that type of system should be reserved for abductions.

I hope for the best for them

It is done in the immediate vicinity when a child is missing no matter the circumstance. Usually it includes where last seen, physical description of the individual as well as clothing in case somebody sees him/her alone somewhere (especially if weather/terrain is potentially life-threatening for a child of whatever age or condition).

ETA:

It's nationally mandated as protocol if a cell phone alert network is present in the vicinity of the Amber Alert.
