Anyone watch this much? Seems like some holes open up nicely, but was tough to break a long run. Overall was pleased with game just wondering if any of the pros here thought down field blocking could improve or was it just different style play?

I think we also put Guice on ice after he wore them down so the big break might have been coming

What was the longest run from scrimmage last night?
I just knew that Guice would break a long one. With his speed it would have been a show.

I noticed issues with down field blocking. I have a feeling this is one of the nuances that the team has yet to pick up. They have the fundamentals down. Now they have to take the offense up a few degrees.

13 yards for Guice

This wasn't a compliant just seemed like they would give up 5 and close hole.

Was wonder if we had down field blocking that could improve

Seems like something that would definitely get better as we progress

BYU has some good linebackers, so not too surprised. Also Canada kept playbook very vanilla..

It is just so much fun watching Guice leave the secondary in the dust.

Well, BYU was taking no risks. They weren't going to get caught guessing with S out of position (blitzing) or LBs guessing instead of keying.

But yes, I noticed trouble with 2nd level blocking. Most of it angles. They'd get there (late) and not be able to prevent the LB from acting on their keys and filling the hole (3+ yds downfield).

Some of that might have been BYU DL eating blocks also.

BYU kept 2 safeties deep for run defense too. Hard to break really long ones when you got 2 hash players back there.

They had issues with the zone blocking scheme. Instead of releasing and getting to the next level the BYU DL was holding them up

I noticed on a passing or sweep play that Chark was doing a poor job of blocking for another receiver. Big difference from Jarvis.
