You realize the cops were in pursuit of the driver of the vehicle who died at the scene after hitting a truck driver who was an off duty cop?
My assumption is they wanted the blood draw quickly to clear the fellow LEO and go HAAM on the deceased so his family couldn't sue.

That nurse deserves lots of recognition from her hospital. She put the patient first. She likely only knew limited information about what happened to the patient when he arrived in the ED. She may have not even known yet who was at fault in the accident. Yet she kept her patient first and fought to protect him.

see the nurse getting a nice check out of this.
Hey genius, that's my tax money going into that check. If the nurse just does as she's told then we save money, cop should have just said she was resisting and coerced cooperation.

LEO will put a stop to these situations soon.
They are training their officers to draw their own blood without having to go to health professionals.
Nothing bad will come of that, right?

I'm pretty sure that is what this LEO was trying to do. Draw the blood on his own. The nurse was just preventing access to the patient.

How hard would it have been to obtain a warrant? The patient wasn't going anywhere.... could've definitely been handled better by LE....

So she was interfering with an investigation? Tenderize the sass out of her and arrest her, cop made the right call.

That's great. It doesn't mitigate their ignorance and incompetence.

The detective who arrested the nurse admitted that they didn't have probable cause for a warrant.

Probably because they knew they'd have never gotten a warrant.
This guy was a victim of a crash that was initiated by a police chase.
The police were trying to cya on potential lawsuits if I had to guess.

My post was not in defense of the LEO.

What is crazy is that LE and nursing staff usually have a mutual respect for one another. Especially those nurses working in the ER because they likely deal with the same officers on a regular basis.

OP should change title, as far as I can tell it wasn't illegal it was just against Hospital policy. Hospital policy doesn't Trump the law,so while it's dumb to arrest the nurse I could totally see obstruction of justice.

Don't most studies suggest high speed chases are essentially are greater risk to the public than the criminal themselves?

Yet he seemed to think in his mind or the watch commanders mind they had probable cause to arrest her hmmm... but no charges were filed against her...IMO a judge should've been notified of the situation and ruled if there was probable cause or not...

Believe so.
Panicking drivers do desperate things that put others at risk.
I believe most studies are suggesting that the cops do enough to get plate info and then back off once it gets too hazardous to other drivers.
You can always go get the driver at other times at their home or work.

Maybe so, but I think the real fault lies with the watch commander for ordering his LEO to arrest the nurse even though he knew there was no warrant. As it stands now he's probably going to skate while the LEO gets canned. Thats the real problem here.

How do you prove the owner was driving the car then? And what about stolen cars.

That's what the cop is saying. No word from his higher ups if that's true or not.
