The LHSAA has ruled that Helen Cox and L.W. Higgins must forfeit their opening week regular season games as fallout from the benches-clearing fight on the field during last week’s Westbank Optimist Jamboree, sources tell Crescent City Sports.
Helen Cox was scheduled to face East Jefferson at Hoss Memtsas Stadium on Thursday evening. As of now, sources indicate Cox is appealing the ruling.
Higgins will forfeit its scheduled opener to Holy Cross, previously scheduled for Friday night at Hoss Memtsas.
The jamboree game between Cox and Higgins last Friday was suspended when both teams left their benches in a brawl on the field at Memtsas.

Pretty lame to deprive East Jefferson and Holy Cross of a game because of two other schools' stupidity.

I'm guessing this is why. Maybe they suspended all players that left the bench, therefore they didn't have enough players to play their week 1 opponents.

Short notice, but they should play each other.

Nah, they get the W and move on. Unless you're saying they should scrimmage.

Sounds like some sort of Last Chance U ruling. Full team suspension or something like that.

Ya, just let them play but they get the W if you're going this route.
Games are an opportunity to get better that those schools are losing.

They dont just lose the game, but also lose money

The frick?
I can see forfeits over ineligible players. Forfeiting future games over the brawl is horseshite.
Staggered player suspensions could cover this without outright forfeiting games.

Or....maybe it is sending a message to everyone else: Act like an a-hole and the ramifications will be severe.

What score is assigned for a forfeit and how does it effect the power ratings?

2-0... think it used to be 1-0

EJ and Holy Cross are each 1-0

So how exactly did EJ and HC act like Assholes. They stand to lose money. This is yet another asinine ruling by the LHSAA.

Cox also had that fight in basketball...

no but it teaches the idiots that brawled and allowed brawl to happen a lesson.
HC and EJ can play if they want to.

this is not the first time it has happened... everyone knew the rule.. .shite is getting out of hand...
penalty should be more severe
that kind of BS that went on in that game has no place in HS sports.

That's not what I'm hearing. It seems HC and EJ won't have a game this week. Such a shame and bad way to start the season.

Agree the teams need to to penalized and the standard set/kept but the other teams should automatically play each other. They should not be penalized. Of course if both coaches agree
