I have known a couple of folks who committed suicide...as hard as I tried, I can't make sense of it all. I no longer try to rationalize it all and accept it for what it is.

I've had several friends that I served with kill themselves in the 7 years we've all been out of the military.

There's a number of different reasons. A couple of them found out their wives cheated on them while on deployments. Others had alcohol/drug issues. Some just couldn't overcome the fact that they had many important responsibilities that they earned while being in the military, only to come back and be told that their service was worthless. I think that's the one that resonates the most with me, and I've had to move past. The military gives you an opportunity to take on and thrive in many different roles, but then you get out and are told your experience isn't worth shite.

Yea, once you deploy the concept of death isn't as taboo as it seemed before.

But it's just one of those things I try to help friends move past. Sad really. A lot of these guys are just starting their adult lives and they give up.

Yeah it was hard for me adjusting to becoming a civilian again.

Of course losing my dad and a future son or daughter made things very hard. It definately made me question my life existence.

I'm just glad that I didn't consider that choice. I have way too much to live, for now.

I believe anyone who takes their own life isn't mentally healthy. And it isn't their fault.

Something isn't right in the brain... Chemical imbalances or just the feeling that life is a dark pit with no hope or happiness. Clinical depression is a bitch and most people go at it alone because they don't seek help from loved ones.

I went through a pretty tough depression for about six months back in college around '94. I made it through it thank goodness. I finally told my parents about it several years later. They had no idea. I had thought about running my car into a tree many times so they could get the insurance money and it wouldn't look like a suicide because I knew that would completely destroy them even more than me just dying in an accident. I remember not being able to sleep and just lying there night after night.. Nights were hard. I wasn't well.
