help me understand the crappy android notification system

if I hit clear notifications, it comes back with emails and text messages right away. This makes the notification system useless because it always has something in it. Every android I have had did this. Iphone the shite goes away.

I have never seen or even heard of this problem.

I've never heard of this issue either, and I've only owned androids. maybe try restarting?

Do y'all read every text message and email? I'm thinking it may be because I don't specifically read every one or mark as read

You can control which apps create notifications

Nope. I get a lot of 2FA texts, and I just read the codes in the notification and swipe them away, leaving them unread. They never come back.

Never heard of that happening to anyone.

I've never seen this. I guess it could be some shitty apps though. Which apps are doing this? What version of Android are you on?

the stock messages and email app for android are doing it. I will clear notifications and then right away it pops up again with old emails and text messages.
not sure what version but it is a new s8.

You need to go into settings and notifications and turn off notification for the individual apps you don't want to get notifications.

Not sure then, something isn't right. I have an s8 and don't have that issue at all. Is yours carrier branded or unlocked? If carrier, which? Some carriers will put their own messaging apps, I think. Test a different messaging app, like Google Messenger.
Can you post a screenshot?

Well that's a first. Notifications in android >>>>>>> notifications in iOS. And I'm posting this from my iPad.

yeah so It popped up earlier with emails from 8/19/2017.
I guess i could swap to different apps but it seems like the stock apps should work. same issue I had with my last android phone. at least on this one my voicemail half arse works.

The stock apps do work. 99.9% of the time. Obviously you have some issue with your phone.

I wasn't suggesting a permanent change of apps. The stock apps should be fine. I was merely trying to help you troubleshoot by eliminating a variable.
And to be clear, you're taking about the notifications panel and not the unread badge count (the number of unread messages that appears on the icon for some apps), right?
What kind of email account are you using?

I've had that probkem. Go to settings, sounds and notification, app notification and go to whatever app gives you problems and turn off the "allow peeking" toggle.

Did you go out and grab oreo or did it just pop up for you to install? I've been waiting.
