Hannigriff "How much will LSU's offense improve in 3rd scrimmage?"

Wednesday on 104.5, Jimmy Ott expressed concern over LSU's passing, it hasn't looked good. Hannagriff agreed there is a concern but also agreed with ETling's statement to the media, that scrimmage stats can be misleading. Etling noted, that the LSU offense wasn't scheming against the LSU defense in scrimmages, just attempting passes in situations where the defense sort of knows what's coming their way, seeing if they could stop it.
Hannigriff also noted Harris' stats in previous scrimmages when he was the starter, scoring multiple TD's in one scrimmage, but no one had any idea if these were at the goal or inside the 20.
In The Advocate of Baton Rouge, it was reported that Canada will have installed all of the offense before the next scrimmage.
I agree. It will be interesting to see how much LSU's passing improves in it's 3rd scrimmage before BYU, and if Canada decides to finally scheme against LSU's defense to see how much he can depend on it, or if he already has an idea how much and doesn't want it advertised.
Sort of have to agree with Etling, in that when LSU's defense knows what you're planning to do in the passing game, no QB's stats will look great.

i think there's good reason to be concerned about the offense. our talent on that side of the ball is as low as i have seen it in quite some time.
O Line and QB are average
1 great RB then a big drop
Looking at the receiver depth chart is eye popping and not in a good way.

Seriously, how would he or any other media members know what our passing game actually looks like?

Etling will be fine. He actually has a decent QB coach, is healthy, and is in a creative offense with a dominant running back that will draw the defense's attention.
Can't wait to see the play action plays that Canada draws up for Etling.

My guideline since 2008 is assume the offense is horrible until the team proves it isn't.

we should be very concerned about the state of the oline.
etling is what he is.
just hope canada is as good as everyone says he is.

why would anyone waste time on scheming against a defense you will never play?

It's been proven time and time again that stats are completely meaningless. I have no idea why people still pay any attention to them. The offense will be fine, Canada isn't going to install everything at once, it's going to be steps.
We might make some mistakes but I think the offense as a whole will offset any mistakes. This will and can be a big play threat type of offense in several different ways. I'm excited to see it. We are finally going to see guys like, Ducre, Clyde, Washington, Moore, Moreau, Pettigrew, Drake, Dillion, Gage, all involved and getting touches in various ways. I'm excited to see it.
If you haven't seen the new article where Aranda describes this years defense as "here we are what you going to do about it" then you should really look for it and read. I believe every word too. This defense will be ferocious.

I am not swayed one way or the other over scrimmage passing stats.
But after watching Etling in real games last year, he is a tough kid. One who will surely take a good hit and keep playing. But is limited a bit in what he can do passing.
Can Canada maximize his strengths? He has helped QB's at other places he has coached. We will see. I hope so.

Sea change from Ground Les to Air Canada. Going to take time for this all to gel.

I know the passing game is a concern. That's why they hired a new passing game coordinator as a consultant recently, who has a reputation for being one of the best former wide receiver's coaches in the NFL when he was still coaching.
So while our passing game isn't up to par yet, I'm hoping that it will progressively get better as the season progresses, as we have some very athletic receivers. We just have to train them to run routes more accurately and get them to become more consistent in catching the ball. Hopefully, some of this stuff they are implementing will rub off on Mickey Joseph and make him a better wide receiver's coach.

Honestly I do not care to see Etling. Etling is not going to get us to the promise land.
Etling has a noodle of arm.
I want to see Brennan or Lowell.

Coach O calls scrimmages pre season for a reason. They don't mean anything other than to get everything in place for regular season. It's not to inflate states.
