re: What will it take for Orgeron to overtake Les Miles as the GOAT LSU football coach?

Miles got LSU to 2 NCG appearances,
He got extremely lucky in 2007, as he blew two regular season games that we should never have lost, and then in 2011, the infamous Les Miles offense came back to haunt us again. But what about in 2006, that 2006 team was a national championship caliber team that got wasted thanks to Les Miles. Like I keep saying had we had at least a decent head coach during the Miles' era, we would have easily won at least two or more national championships.

'm not even getting into the argument over Miles vs. Saban at LSU.
What I do find laughable, though, is that some of you idiots actually believe Orgeron belongs in the same company as either of them

This statement is ridiculous even for this board you are taking CheeriO bias to a level even Fat Geobbles wouldn't stoop to
Les Miles is a good coach, maybe not an all time great one, but good. He took over an OSU program that had 11 losing seasons in 12 years prior to his arrival and after his first year had 3 winning seasons. Compared to O who won 10 games in 3 years at OM a school that had a 10 win season just 2 years before his hiring. And while its true Saban left Miles a loaded roster, Miles did in fact build and recruit and equally loaded roster from 2010-2013. It will take a lot more than 6-2 Interim coaching stops for O to accomplish that.

I've never seen a fan base belittle it's own championship like some LSU fans with 2007. All just to discredit the coach that won it because he didn't win enough.

06 was a loaded team. You know who else was loaded? 2006 Florida who we lost to on the road. And Urban Meyer is a better coach. Basically the Miles haters blame Miles for not being better than 2 of the best coaches of all time.

It's just much harder to be a re-tread in college football at 63 years old...
That's complete and utter bullshite and just a lame excuse. Being a college football coach is nontraditional employment. Because of the enormous amount of money involved and the enormous expectations, successful coaches never quit at age 65. They either continue until they get fired or they retire only when physically they are unable to continue. It's the same way in the pros as well. These people are driven to succeed. Indeed, I don't see Nick Saban giving up the game and the accolades anytime in the near future even though he is the greatest of all time. He's driven. He's going to do it for as long as he can be successful doing it. Sort of like the Bear.

This is such bullshite. The "LSU brand" doesn't put in leg work to bring in kids. Did Saban recruit Jarvis, Odell, Leonard, Jeremy Hill, Jamal Adams, Patrick Peterson, Tyron Mathieu, Eric Reid, Morris Caliborn..............?
Saban recruited them. He just didn't get them.

This is an incredibly myopic view. You realize the team he played was just as if not more talented and Saban is a better coach and had a better staff. Sucks but it is also reality.
Except that just as talented team figured out a way to score 6 times versus our 0.

the infamous Les Miles offense came back to haunt us again.
Behind 2007 he also holds the the next 3 spots in offensive scoring. Spooky ain't it?

Was. The word you're looking for is was.
An American Athletic Conference team and a perennial bottom-feeder in the Big Ten passed on him.

You're missing my point. First of all, the only types of coaches that control their own destiny like Saban are a handful of the greatest coaches of all time. All the guys I mentioned were also incredibly driven and still wanted to coach as well. That does not change the fact that universities are more inclined to hire someone they think can be the face of their program for the long term future, rather than a guy that could be on the back 9 of his coaching career

I'm not sure what your point is here? We got shut out, that sucks, the offensive game plan was obviously horrendous.

Spare me the Greg Brady exact words game. I agree it was time for him to go, the point is he WAS a good coach at LSU, who did win a lot of game, and happened to coach at the same time, in the same division as 1 of if not the greatest coach of all time.

You can add a better win pct vs SEC opponents and top 10 opponents. The only reason Miles overall win pct is slightly higher than Sabans is because of an extra rent a win game per year as the schedule was increased from 11 to 12 games right before Saban left. He also had his best 5 year run during the weakest 5 year span in SEC west history. From 05 to 09 our SEC west opponents won 46% of their games, lowest ever for any 5 year span in the SEC west. Saban won championships at over double the rate did it starting from scratch and did it vs tougher competition anyone who isn't a Miles sycophant knows it's not close. Btw Arnsparger was much better too.

Hey let's pretend the best college coach of all-time isn't better than Les Miles.

First of all, I agree anyone trying to argue Miles did better at LSU than Saban is most like a Saban/Bama hater. I don't agree about Arnsparger but it's debatable.
That's an interesting stat but at risk of being called a Miles sycophant
it needs context. Saban started at Bama and won the SEC W in 08 and 09. Miles also won it twice in that span. The other year was 2006. Arkansas, who LSU beat won it at 7-1, this is part due to SEC scheduling inequities.LSUs losses were at Florida who won the NC and to the refs, errr at Auburn who finished #8. Hard to say the SEC W was down that year. We did finishnranked #3.

If Less Mlles was so great and just so awesome as all of you brown stained nosed Less Miles worshipers all insist, then why did LSU consistently put more players in the NFL on average in the past few years than Alabama did, while at the same time Nick Saban was consistently winning national championships and beating LSU each and every year, and LSU was getting second and third tier bowl games?
Furthermore, what does this have to do with coach Orgeron overtaking Less Miles, the luckiest football coach ever in LSU and American history? That record you morons all cite isn't Less Miles' record. It doesn't belong to him! It's the LSU football program's record and there is a hell of a lot more to the LSU football program than just only Less Miles. In fact, Less Miles was the weak link in the LSU football program that was holding it back. He was the primary reason why Alabama was playing for national championships and beating LSU every year and we were getting to play in 2nd and 3rd tier bowl games. So now we discarded that weak link and hired someone else to replace it. We should all be pulling for him and praying at the same time that he doesn't turn out to be another weak link like Less Miles.
Furthermore, if Less Miles was half as good as you brown nosers all insist, he would have been hired within five minutes after being fired by LSU. Instead, he was shunned like the plague. No one wanted to touch him with a ten-foot pole. Why, because everyone who doesn't have his or her nose stuck up Less Miles' arse can easily see he is a very mediocre coach at best. Indeed, he coaches exactly as he speaks.
Moreover, that record you brown nosers insist is Less Miles' record, is not his record. It's the LSU football program's record and there is a hell of a lot more to the LSU football program than only coach Less Miles. In fact, Less Miles was the weak link in the LSU football program, which he more than demonstrated last year by losing two games early after being warned to change the previous year. So if anyone is at fault for his dismissal, blame him. He was warned and stop taking it out on his damn successor.

Saban couldn't even get one back to back ten win seasons while Les had a number, but Saban was the goat.

O could be great
Based on what facts could ANYONE feel O will be great? A hope and a prayer? The truth is, nothing O has done in his coaching career has been great, but some of that career has been shitty.
Les is the goat of LSU football no matter the last couple years.
