It's easier to find a good kicker in any round though. Same can't be said of a qb.

While it's true they tend to score more points than other positions there are two core issues with this argument.
The first is that many of the points they score come from PATs after someone else scores a TD. That means others have to score first for them to score (those points).
The second is that they are not every down players, and in fact play the fewest snaps outside of perhaps punter (depends on how the day is going for that team). This means they rely on all the other players to get into field position for them to score points, and then only come on for one play to do so.
So while it is important to have a good kicker, they are not worth big capital considering most kickers have close to the same ability, and all kickers are streaky year to year.
Ask the Seahawks how they feel after giving big money to their kicker and then him not doing nearly as well since. Edit: After looking him up it was actually just the year he got the big contract he did poorly (one of his worst years). He then had a great year followed by a good year.
Edit:
No FG kicker is over 90% for their career, and the highest ranked retired kicker is Vanderjagt at 86.5%, and even he had streaky years. Only 4 current kickers are better and only 1 of those has played more than 10 years.

I actually agree with you. Just cause they're not an everydown player, people think just grab them later. The amount of games I can count off the top of my head the saints lost because of a relatively easy kick (either for or against) is pretty high. Hartley vs Falcons, Packers. Lutz vs Giants, Broncos and Panthers. And then all the near 60 yarders Matt Bryant crushed against us for game winners over the years. We haven't had a reliable kicker since Carney. Lutz had a lot of mistakes last year but the potential is there. It looks like he's learned to get them over the line and if that's the case, we could finally have a good one. Jury is still out but I'm hopeful for this year.
