I usually back Poch no matter what (In Poch We Trust 
), but I really don't like how he dismisses the League Cup as being beneath us because we are a "big club."
I think focusing on the Carabao Cup and winning it would do wonders for the future.

What makes you think he thinks we are "above" the cup?
He and the players have been very explicit in their stated desires to to win any cup/trophy possible.
