Can't wait for Aranda to expose this mismatch. If Key can suit up for the first game coming in at his listed weight (265) and his tremendous speed, best believe it will be a long day for BYU.

Keys not gonna have tremendous speed at 265. If they're trying to pack weight on this guy as fast as possible then they're gonna make him slow and Klavon is gonna feast.

Actually I think the advantage here goes to the DE's just as much as the Buck. Lawrence and the other DE's should be able to Bull rush this guy and control the Tackle on run plays.

His center of gravity will be real high.

I can't see him containing any of our guys consistently.

I think no matter what these guys are going to struggle with this defense. It's the most Athletic defense we've had in some time maybe ever. These LBs and DL are strong as frick and we are DEEP. With Herron emerging that gives us (2) deep with the second team possibly better then the first team at least on par.

Everyone knows how good we were in the secondary with a mean DL, well we have a MEAN DL, and LB core who can cover as well. It's going to be a struggle for this offense! I think we can beat BYU without much offense tbh. Special teams and defense might win this game. I just can't see BYU running the football consistently, if at all.

That means they will be in 2nd or 3rd and long, playing right into what Aranda likes to do, rush the passer with our bucks. Could possibly put (1) on each end let the MLBs cover the flats and secondary do their thing. Big mismatch on the ends no matter who they have. Likely big mismatch in the middle as well, they all meet at the QB. Long day for OC and Mangum.

I think it'll help our secondary gain some confidence. They have a good QB but shouldn't have a lot of time to throw. Maybe they dump a lot of short passes to frustrate us but I think we dominate.

Last year our starter went down and he filled in the rest of the season. Earned Freshman All-American honors for it, but his size is definitely a concern.

I'm not saying for sure Brennan throws for 4k this year, but it's possibly definite.

I believe someone pointed this out already, but Shoaf got thrown into the mix as a true freshman just barely off a mission, so he didn't get much training time, and ended up a freshman all american at 265 and that was playing RT where he had to go against bigger guys.
Managed to put on 10 lbs but yes obviously he still needs to put weight on.
At the same time, Shoaf has a really good ability to dig his foot in and hold guys off. He did this at 265. The ability to play bigger than he is.
It's the same thing with our C Tejan Koroma. People wrote him off because he was 6'0 255 as a recruit. Now he'll be a 4 year starter and is one of the top graded centers in the nation. As a true freshman at 280 he had his share of good moments against big time Malcolm Brown from Texas. Pancaked two of their big DTs IIRC. If he was 6'2 he would have ended up at TAMU or Texas. Size hasn't stopped him. He's incredible.

At the same time, and this is more of a question, if Key does play, which I doubt, it seems pretty clear he's not quite going to have that same speed will he? 30 lbs is a lot of weight for a speed rusher to gain.
Curious how it affects him even though it was "planned" and also how this whole recovery thing goes for a guy who should probably go in the top 10. Having no knowledge other than articles, I wouldn't be surprised at all if he got held out until State. A program like LSU shouldn't be desperate to push him in too soon.

Just my thoughts. Shoaf is hardly a spot of worry for us though. His technique makes up for his weight for now. And if you get too carried away putting an emphasis on trying to exploit one spot, there are always counter measures. It will at least be competitive. Just ready for football to finally start aye?
