Don't get the hate for this episode. Rick basically said screw therapy with grabbing drinks and then when Jaguar saves them at the end of the episode. "That Morty...is why you don't go to therapy."

I'm not calling it yet but the women episodes have been a bit notch down and OBVIOUS women episodes, hell they made Rick the B story in both of them. Granted it was awesome but it was the B story. Rick shouldn't ever be the B plot
We will see at the end of the season but Im starting to think there's a reason they paired 14 episodes down to 9 and delayed the start.
Everyone tried to defend the guys saying quality takes time and its going to be so much better because of the delay.
The first April Fools episode was great, it felt like the Rick & Morty we've come to love. It was also written by one of the normal writers (man). Was that the reason it stood out next to these two good, but subpar episodes? We will see at the end of the season when we compare episodes and writers to quality.
I still love the show and the pickle Rick stuff was great.
I guess it could be that they are expanding Beth and summer, but two episodes now both had 5 minute monologues that were preachy and out of place in the show.
I did get the joke at the end, but they spent the A plot and way too much time on the therapy session that was just not funny.
The after credit joke was a way to cop out of the episode long boring therapy joke.

It was just straight up actual divorce therapy. Outside of the one frick you throw away joke by Beth, there wasn't even a joke or a reason for it.
They felt the need to actually explain the nature of the relationships to the audience. Which is unnecessary and boring and insulting. I thought it was setting something up, which would've been great. Like Rick killing the therapist or Morty snapping and putting everyone in there place, but it wasn't. It was just an actual divorce therapy session for the Sanchez family.

It reminded me of Futurama episode "Amazon Women in the Mood" right after Bender, Kif, Zapp, and Fry were captured by the Amazon Women. They were being lead through the town and their captor was explaining how all of the female versions of things were better. They got to the comedy club and the Amazon Woman says something along the lines of "This is our comedy club, comedy here is funny because it uses real situations not abstract situations."
Women and men find typically find different types of comedy funny so I'm not surprised that the type of jokes and show situations have changed in two of the first three episodes.

It reminded me of the ruling females on gazorpazorp when they say they'll crush Rick with a Boulder and he'd rather shoot himself then listen to them explain something so obvious.

What happened to being subtle about Rick's problems? It's so out of character for him to straight up admit his demons
Have you ever in your life met a woman that understands subtlety?
I hate that they feel the need to explain everything all the way through that clip.
It reminds me of Mac in always sunny when they do lethal weapon and he feels the need to explain every single scene using exposition monologue from his charter.

Holy shite it's like you watched this episode in a different reality.
There is NO way one could watch this episode and think of Pickle Rick being the B story.

I am here if you need to talk.

That's what's irritating me more than anything, the need to explain the jokes.

Yea, they definitely don't set up anything well in the episodes they right. For instance, in episode two the jump in the portal to avoid interacting with Jerry and then the scene cuts to them being chased. In previous episodes story lines were set up alot better even if some happenings were just random.

I'm just frustrated, I was really excited about this show and really kept up with it's delays and everything. Pickle Rick was so fricking awesome, but that therapy shite was just that, shite. Of they don't get it together soon, the show will be done.

Yup.
And the surprise April fools escape from prison episode was fricking awesome. It had me so excited for this season. Of course, that episode was written by a long time writer of the some who also wrote Total Rickall and Close Encounters.
I just checked and the next episode is also female written, but the 5th episode is written by the same guy that wrote the Unity episode, so I'm excited for that one.

It's definitely better with a 2nd viewing. Like most episodes of this show.

I have to say, the last two episodes have felt really 'off'. I was wondering why, and now having read the thread here, totally understand.
Whoever had the bright idea (the female writers) to start trying to 'humanize' Rick, needs to be fired yesterday. What a terrible fricking idea and plot line. What happened to 'darkest year of our adventures'?

Literally more time was spent on Beth. Running episode time.
B plot

I just rewatched the episode and there wasn't a single funny thing about the therapy session. While I liked the Pickle Rick stuff the therapy monologue killed any positives that Pickle Rick brought.

I agree. But in the past when they were being not funny or dramatic it was building to something. It served a purpose. Like Rick's speech at Bird Persons wedding. Or the black guy's speech at Christmas.
What was the point of the therapy session? Can you compare it to another scene in the series? When else have they done something like that with no end game and no comedic elements?
Like I said earlier, if that therapy was setting up something then it would've been a solid part of the episode. Like Rick killing the therapist or Morty flipping out. But it was just straighttuo watching the Sanchez family in therapy. No character development, no overall plot tie in, nothing

It didn't even make sense in the plot of the episode.
He turns himself into a pickle to avoid therapy and then he fights his way back just to go to the therapy?
And they make a point the entire therapy session to discuss Beth's naivity and inability to distrust her father, but she brought the syringe with her, so obviously she doesn't trust him and knows exactly what in the syringe.
I mean the whole plot structure makes no sense.
And Goldenfold eating poop? What was that about?
The writing hasn't been witty or smart the last two episodes. It's just been bad writing. From plot structure to joke development, it's amateur bullshite with no attention to detail.
And this show was built on Scifi adventures of Rick and Morty and attention to detail. They've abandoned both of those things now.
I just rewatched the episode also and every scene with the therapist is just exposition explaining the nature of the relationships of the characters. Again, what the frick was the point of that?
