Yeah, where you have lower income areas, you'll have higher crime, thus a larger police presence. However, most of these morons are riding or walking around in possession and even smoking while walking and/or driving. They typically have a DGAF attitude that never works out for them whether it be drugs or credit score.

Ideally, maybe. With the sensitivity politicians must maintain toward marginalized groups, playing up the race angle probably works better.

I'll never understand why people argue for legalization of something based on the ability for the Feds to tax it. It should either be legal or illegal regardless of their ability to squeeze money from it.

I'm not arguing that. In fact, that's why I said I'd be pitching it as disproportionately impacting low SES.

Right, but I just don't think this is the golden bullet they claim it to be as far as incarceration goes. These people don't typically get locked up for simple possession alone. In fact, many courts and pd's have become increasingly lenient on mj in recent years. To me, the value is in undermining illegal markets and saving money by not having to enforce prohibition. IMO, the incarceration angle is overblown.

It may be overblown, but I think it may play well in terms of getting legislation passed. Rand Paul has used similar rationale.

I agree that the optics are just what they need. I think they need to partner up with the right advocacy/research groups to put some neutral/fact based information out there on the truth about weed, i.e. not NORML.
